Not the most interesting waterfall that I have ever seen, but it's surely a nice one. Mostly, you will enjoy the walk to get to this waterfall. The track itself is nicely maintained and not so difficult.
No ticket to walk the path to access the waterfalls needed.

Easy to access parking lot in Arthur's Pass village. The view is beautiful and a short distance to the top via a serious of well-maintained steps. It is a cardiac blast to the top. There is ample places to pause if you need to rest going up or down.

I'm your typical overweight American tourist who doesn't get enough exercise. I'm also over 60 years old. I though I might struggle to do this walk, but it wasn't as bad as I thought even though it did take me about 75 minutes to do with rest time built in. Our guide said there were about 450 steps, about half with handrails. I wish there were more with handrails because the ones without were higher than normal. Still, I'm proud of my accomplishment and the view of the falls made it worth it.

We opted for this short hike on a rainy day, since the visibility was poor and a hike at elevation would have been a poor choice. It was a good way to see some beautiful scenery with an easy and safe walk in any weather. We walked over to another falls (bridal veil?) which was less impressive, but the walk through the beech forest was nice.

The falls were very nice in the summer, not spectacular as they would be in other seasons. I still felt it was worth the climb of 300+ steps to get to the viewing platform. I am older and it took me twice the time indicated for the trail.

You can easily see this waterfall from the road, or car park, and can get a good view just beyond the 2nd bridge. After that its about 400 steps up a fairly steep track to get close to the falls, but the view is worth it, and track has some lovely views and native bush the entire way.
From town it’s about a 15-minute walks to the start of the track, straight up the highway and turn left, or, drive to the carpark and start there by crossing the first pedestrian bridge.
You can get right up to the base of the falls by leaving the track just before the viewing platform, but the views from the platform were fine.

Be prepared for lots of steps. It appears NZ hike ratings are more about time length rather than actual difficulty. Beautiful walk to the base of 131m falls over bridges and through forest.

Beautiful Views, very steep steps. Need to be in good shape. The stated distance doesn’t seem far, but this is challenging. Great PhotoPills at the top.

The improvements to this walk are spectacular, and the viewing platform is amazing. I loved the fact that the legend behind its name in Māori (Te takau o Hinekakai ) is displayed.
