We had our first visit to the British Schools Museum this week. Our young children really enjoyed the museum, particularly playing with the old fashioned toys. The museum staff had three different craft activities on offer and the children were delighted with what they made. Thank you for a fun visit - we will definitely be back.

I visited the museum on my own and received a tour on an individual basis. The tour was really informative and I would recommend taking one - they are free and run by volunteers. Afterwards there was plenty of time to go and take the museum in on my own. I think this place is a hidden gem and would... More

This is an interesting small museum which shows education since 1810. There are books displayed in the lift up desks of my childhood and a headmaster's house. It is run by volunteers and the two that took us round were interesting and knowledgeable. A good trip for a couple of hours.

I went with a friend, for an afternoon. So interesting and fact finding! We had a tour around the old classes, & learned about the strictness of the school. Including a tour of the old School Ma'ams house! I never expected it to be so good! There is a coffee/tea shop & you can buy souvenirs. It is entirely run... More

A surprising find (but not that easy to find!) in Hitchin. Lots of helpful volunteers, and we even had a guided tour to ourselves. Definitely recommend a visit, and today's schoolchildren should go and see how lucky they are today!!

Run by volunteers, this is a good place for children to find out what school was once like. They can dress up, have a go at writing on sand, slates, and with a dip pen and ink. There are nice old-fashioned toys to play with and jigsaws to do. Plenty to keep them interested for at least 2 hours. And... More

A delightful insight as to what school must have been like in Victorian times, fun and very educational for children , as they can dress up in costume of the era to enhance the experience!

An interesting visit. Have tried to visit a few times but opening times are restricted so always check before you go. You get to see the inside of some model classrooms which are interesting. There is also a small collection of old children's toys which brought back some memories. Small but interesting.
