We were astonished by this very beautiful church. We discovered it by chance passing on the road and got interested by the road signs "Selby Abbey". The church is well preserved with nice stained glass, wooden roof. Outside is beautiful with gargoiles and a garden. Free entrance, Toilets inside, parking nearby.

Standing at over 900 yrs old this majestic church has risen from the ash.s and sits proudly in the centre of town. With easy access for all the only place you cant go is the roof. One of the delights of the North, if you like architecture and old religious buildings. We happened upon this amazing place and could have stayed for much longer.

Living close to Selby I see this church at lase twice a week and have visited on many occasions. There are practically no words to describe to the feeling of the history of this place and it is well worth a visit.

Wonderful old church with lots to see and do. There is a small cafe run by volunteers in the centre left of the church and many things of interest to Christians and non Christians. I rather liked the Washington connection plus the small carving of Edward V11 inside a pierced ornamental piece of stone work. Quiet, peaceful and majestic. The... More

We visited this beautiful Abbey during our visit to Selby on Bank Holiday Monday Market Day. It had stalls, cakes and drinks for the public. It really is a wonderful building to see, especially at such a special time of the year.
