After a full day at sea, the Tonnara Florio Favignana was a great way to get back on land and see how the island used to live around the Tuna. It must be sayed that the tuna in Favignana is incredible but it was very moving to see how an all industry was developed around it. The museum is placed... More

Coming from Marsala, I went to Favignana with aliscafo on Sunday the 25th of September, aiming at visiting the tonnera. Unfortunately, when I arrived (approx 12:00) the tonnera was closing down. The next opening was planned at 17:00: just when I had to leave with the boat. This is stupid ! I was not the only tourist caught in this... More

They do guided tours, with duration of 1h. We had a Italian guide perhaps they do also in English but not sure. It's impressive to see how they worked. Also sad to see how humans perfected this industry of dead and the tuna disappear.

Take a trip through time and see the remains of the Roman sea battles which have been preserved in the museum before taking a tour of the factories which made the island its fortune. Wonderful history tour and a lesson that even a small island can have a big impact on the world.

It's very interesting to visit this place listening and learning about illuminated Italian industrials of two centuries ago and local tradition and culture. You have also the possibility to discover a piece of Roman history hearing about the naval battle around the islands that put an end to the first war between Rome and Carthago. It's a pleasure to see... More

Very interesting old tonnara turned into a museum, with a particular emphasis on the history (and downfall) of the Florio family. Exhibits include some amazing old fishing boats. Open only in the morning. One of the last surviving workers explained what life was like when the tonnara was in full swing. Unfortunately he and the guide spoke only in Italian;... More

amazing place if you can imagine when the tuna fishing was at it's peak, would not have been the most pleasant place to work though!

We visited tonnara at the last evening during our three days stay in Favignana and it really was worth it. Tonnara building is nicely illuminated at evening, exhibition is informative and was interesting even for our 5 years old grand daughter. Tuna story is presented by exposition of original tonnara equipment, historic photos, as well as up-to-date installations and video.... More

There is so much history here that it is well worth a visit. We joined the free tour which is very detailed, however it is only offered in Italian.
