Many photo spots along the highway
On a sunny day this lake is turquoise blue and stunningly beautiful with Mt Cook at a distant . Besides the visitor center lookout, there are at least half a dozen lookouts for photos along the Tekapo-bound and Mt Cook bound highway. The later offers also great mirror views of the lakes / rivers on a calm day. Be careful of drivers stopping suddenly at these turn offs though !

    Amazing photo opportunities.
Amazing location. The views of Mt Cook are truly spectacular. The visitor centre can be busy worth a lot of tourists. The toilets are located there, a little smelly but still needed. Amazing place for photo and gazing at influencers doing their filming. Well worth the drive and journey.

Loved this lake! Quieter than Lake Tekapo
Such a stunning lake with amazing coloured water. The road wraps around the edge so easy to get beautiful photos. Personally I think the best views are off the road going up to Mount Cook village when you can capture the colourful lake and the mountains in the background. Quieter than Lake Tekapo with less facilities, but it’s a similar size lake and a nicer colour!

Beautiful lake - so very blue - and Mt Cook spectacular (from a distance)
The lake was stunning - a vivid blue evidently due to the melting glaciers and snow. The road to Mt Cook runs along the side of the lake and it's crowded with tour buses, cars etc. Finding a viewpoint that isn't full isn't easy. However, when you do the view is fantastic. Mt Cook on a good day is spectacular. Definitely don't go closer than the airfield near the mountain - from then on it's just wall to wall buses, campervans, cars, bikes and people by the thousand. It's better to stay well back and enjoy the scenery without the people etc. jamming it up.

I was appalled by the condition of the Lake Pukaki toilet. It was the worst toilet I have ever seen in my travel on New Zealand. It smelled horrible, like a sewer, and the floor was wet and slippery with water hopefully not urine. The toilet bowls were full of toilet papers, and there was no soap or paper towels. It was a health hazard and a disgrace. It is a shame that such a beautiful lake has such a disgusting toilet. The authorities should do something to improve the hygiene and maintenance of this facility.

An unbelievable blue lake with a backdrop of mountains on the route to Mount Cook. A fantastic photograph around every bend in the road. Magical!

Freedom camped here on the banks of Lake Pukaki. There were many others here too, unsurprisingly, but we still had our privacy. Absolutely stunning location.

A quick stop to check out the views at this lovely lake; Mount Cook (Aoraki) was hiding behind clouds so we couldn't see it. There is a small but informative visitor center to learn about the area.
