What a beautiful lake. Unfortunality we did not see Mt cook as it was the only mountain under cloud, so it looked like it had dissappeared. Lake Pukaki is a huge lake and there is a great viewing area of the road.

With the alps in the far distance, a little greenery by the sides, and many rocks covering across where we were admiring it, the whole place is very picturesque - and during evening it is like a mirror too! And we have found a way...More

We drove along the entire length of this lake to and from the Mt Cook area and we found ourselves stopping numerous times to appreciate the views and beauty of the area. Many simply breathtaking vistas all over the place.

The visitor center is at the head of the lake with a large parking area and beach. Views are great of the lake and mountains. The visitor center has a small shop and some foods available.
