Having driven from Lake Tekapo its hard to be impressed by a lake, but this is impressive. Gorgeous blue waters and its own statue, this time of a Himalayan Tahr. In th evisitors centre there are some feet marked on the floor in front of a large window and if you stand in them you are looking directly at Mount... More

Beautiful turquoise lake, quite similar to lake Tekapo. Drive on the west side of the lake (many beautiful photo spots along the way) all the way to the glacier car park. From there you can walk up to see the glacial lake from above and glacier in the background (15 min but steep) or easy walk to the glacial lake... More

A large man-made lake with excellent views of Mt. Cook. Definately a photogenic area. Roads are good and not busy. Unfortunately there is little accommodation except at Twizel and then it is limited. Well worth the visit.

This was maybe 40 minutes on from Lake Tekapo and it is so worth the drive. The view across to Mt Cook was spectacular. Also way less busy than Tekapo even though it still has all the beautiful colours of the water.

The turquoise colour of the lake and the view to Mt Cook makes this place one of the most beautiful landscapes in NZ, in my point of view... quite far from Wanaka but it worth it.

We were unable to stay at Lake Tepaku because all sites were full, so ploughed on to a reference in the lonely planet guide we had, which said there was a place called 'the pines' a vast free campsite on the shores of the lake. Which it was. A huge site, with two entrances, one up a steep gravel lane... More

Passed the lake on the way to Mount Cook, directly stop the car and parking because of the view. It's like postcard picture come to live. We passed this area twice, so I can saw the different color when the wheather not sunny. I upload the comparison picture here.

We were driving from Queenstown to Christchurch, and stopped here for a picnic, and to admire the views. We just couldn't stop taking pics! The snow covered southern slips looked right out of a chocolate box picture, with Mt. Cook dominating the scene. I can't remember having a picnic in such a beautiful place. Don't miss it.

There is no doubt New Zealand is a great place to visit and for us this was the stand out thing we saw. We were lucky that Mount Cook was fully visible and it was a sunny day so the views and colour of the lake were truly outstanding. Was worth coming just for this.
