Visited this gem of a museum with my wife during a visit to the Waiarapa region. It is certainly a wonderful collection of rich railway history, the centrepiece being Locomotive H 199, the sole remaining steam powered Fell Locomotive in the world. It has been magnificently restored by a group of skilled, dedicated railway enthusiasts. This Museum uniquely preserves the... More

My husband was fortunate to talk to one of the volunteer guides and was fascinated by the information he received. They also have an ongoing movie that was very interested. Truly worth a stop for those interested in Locomotives.

A group of 10 of us booked morning tea and entry to the Fell Locomotive Museum in Featherston. We were not disappointed. The country town ladies served us a generous morning tea of home baking. A hark back to old time generosity and hospitality! The film telling us about the locomotive's history had us all enthralled. The old engine chugged... More

Visited the Fell locomotive museum in Featherstone on our way to Napier. This is a gem of a museum. Only small but packed with interesting facts about the famous Rimutaka Incline, New Zealand's steepest railway line from 1878 to 1955. Star of the show is a fully restored ' Fell' locomotive H 199 Cenis. This is now the only one... More

This is an excellent museum for anyone interested in the pioneering days of New Zealand and in the early railways. All the machinery on display has been very well preserved, and the movie showing the extraordinary way in which the railway line was constructed is highly informative.

This is a great stop to learn so much about the wee fell engines and the history of the rimutaka train track. The movie is very worthwhile to give a very good overview before looking at the many exhibits. The lady manning the door sales was so helpful, friendly and informative. Would highly recommendthis attraction.

Visited the fell locomotive museum today. It's only a small museum, but has lots and lots of information about the locomotives and the history of the rimutaka incline. For a small museum, it can take a good hour or more to view and read about the exhibits and the small shop was suprising good too. The staff are very helpful.... More

It is a very special museum, staffed by volunteers, dedicated to preserve the FELL steam engine, the special steam engine to tackle the very steep gradient at Rimutaka Incline. Yes it is a history, starting more than 100 years ago when the engineers started to build very steep track 1 in 15 gradient over the Rimutaka Range between Summit and... More

The exhibits are in excellent condition, well restored, and well explained. The video is very thorough in the history and how things worked.
