The Tongariro National Trout Centre was a relaxing time of reading factual information and mindful connection with nature. We are so blessed in New Zealand to have a facility that promotes not only conservation, but recreational trout fishing.

Seeing the blue duck,if there, and the natural trout is great. The kids fish out is excellent and the Tongariro river nearby is good to see. The museum is good for those interested in trout fishing and the small fresh water living museum is educational.

We have taken our grandson twice now to the days they teach kids to fish. The kids get to catch a trout with some help from a fly fisherman. First time it was even smoked onsite for us.

A good thing to do if you love fishing but otherwise slightly boring for kids. My kids are teenagers though. Well set up and good info though. Maybe a bit nicer on a warm day

Considering that I didn't really fancy visiting the trout hatchery in the first place, just how wrong can you be. It is an unpretentious place with a wonderful ethos as a charitable trust to educate and inform and allow children in particular to experience catching a trout in a small well stocked pond that they have on site. You can... More

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Reasonably priced & has a lot of history and stories about trout & trout fishing. The kids enjoyed looking at the different types of fish & feeding the trout. We also talk a stroll along the Tongariro River & watched two men fly fishing.

I took my family to this facility as it was reviewed quite a good place to experience trout. It is closed pretty early. However, we managed to be there before it was closed. We bought a box of fish food for my nephew to feed the trout. The aquarium was OK and provide ample knowledge of trout and other local... More

A well-presented museum about trout history, the aquarium and hatchery is a must-see attraction. While following the informative signs you pass along the viewing platforms and underwater viewing chamber along the Waihukahuka Stream. Then you walk past the children's fishing pond and finally reach the Tongariro River.

Called in on the way back from high tea from the chateau and it was a lovely stop. It was educational and the girls loved feeding the fish.
