At the end of the Rainbow

We ended up staying 3 days in Whangamata but unfortunately, the weather was not enticing enough to woe us into the water. It had such a lovely vibe on the shoreline.

Enjoyed a walk watching the surfers and fossicking before stopping for a coffee. We didn't have long to spend there but would definately like to come back.

The waves looked great and its a nice long beach however we were bitten by some sort of bugs whilst we were there.

The beauty of Whangamata is the rugged beauty of the hills framing the ocean without too much intrusion from housing. Boats dot the inlet and the vast beautiful beach stretches out to allow a space for all visitors. Continues to hold its beauty even on a wet day.

Awesome safe beach - first swim of the season and the water is lovely and clear. Huge beach so you are not on top of each other - would love to have this beach on our door step

This is one of the loveliest beaches I have been too in NZ. Words can't do it benefit. Great place for shell collecting.

Fantastic beach for all, surfing, swimming, boating or just lazing around in the sun. Within walking distance in both directions is the surf club, life savers and Blackies Cafe. Toilet blocks are also located here. Williamson park where they have put in extra parking. Everything thing you want in one great place.

At the time of my visit the weather was amazing, not very many peoples around as school was not out. I spent a long weekend of 'Me Time" in and around Whangamata. I walked the beach a few times, top mark to the council and beach goers for keeping the beach in tip top condition. I will definitely visit again... More

You can't beat this left hand break anywhere in NZ. The beach is just wonderful to swim, surf paddle board or just walk the entire beach which will take you a good 45 minutes from wharf to estuary [then of course back unless you stay]

Beautiful beach extending from estuary to harbour - a couple of kilometres. Lots of access points. Great beach combing after a storm. Very busy in the summer with dogs being restricted from the busy part of the day and from the dotterel nesting areas. Worth a visit!
