What an amazing setting for a summer festival. The ruins are absolutely stunning; overlooking the sea to the left and the lighthouse to the right. On a separate note the festival itself was brilliant. Very well organised, not too many people in one area and...More

The priory is at the very mouth of the Tyne. The property has the very faint remains of an 8-9th century church, some striking remains of an 11th century basilica, the outlines of the monastic priory, and the fort used during the wars. The views...More

Picturesque town , worth a look around too, Priory & Castle is a good place for all to visit , stunning views that are only marred by the ugly eighties lifeguard lookout base (now unused). No parking on site (unless blue badge holder) , but...More

Oh my what a gig, and the venue couldn't have been any better, full house but not like sardines in a tin, spacious, set up wonderfully, great weather, and it was just a perfect occasion, very scenic and a lot of history in the area...More

Fascinating ruins with incredible views out to sea. Beautiful stained glass in the chapel. Not great for young children as there are sheer drops.

Well presented and maintained by English Heritage. Romantic and photogenic ruins. Good sea views. Limited shelter on a wet day.

Going inside isn't much different from looking at it outside. It's just a ruin with not much to see. If you've got a membership definitely stop in but if you have a pay an entry fee you may feel a bit disappointed.

You could walk right up to the gates and take photos and also walk part of the perimeter. There is no accommodation within the Castle or Priory grounds.
