「益々繁盛」を表す手水鉢

阪堺電気軌道の綾ノ町駅から徒歩3分ほど。入館料は200円。清学院との共通入館料は250円。
主屋は江戸時代初期に建てられた町家建築(国重要文化財)。家主の山口家(屋号：越前屋)は庄屋を務めていた。また13代目の義一は東京帝大卒で、昭和初期には衆議院議員となり立憲政友会の幹事長にもなった人物。土間の天井は高く、太い梁が渡されている。観光ボランティアの方の解説によると、庭に置かれている手水鉢は正方形(枡形)でさらに内部に桝形が切ってあるが、これは「益々繁盛」を表しているとのこと。

伝統的な堺の町家暮らし

「京の着倒れ、大坂の食い倒れ」と共に「堺の建て倒れ」と言われ、堺は建物に贅を凝らしたそうです。大阪夏の陣によって堺の市街地が全焼した直後に建てられた、江戸初期の町家のひとつです。堺の町屋暮らしの豊かさを感じさせる建物です。

阪堺電気軌道の綾ノ町停留場から少し歩いたところに、重要文化財の山口家住宅があります。
1615年の大坂夏の陣の戦火により市街地が全焼した直後に建てられたもので、国内でも現存する数少ない江戸時代初期の町家のひとつです。

それは素晴らしい家でした。
ガイドさんのお話によると、はっきりとした家系図的な記録が残っていないようで、嫁いでいらしたかたの出自やらわからないことも多いそうでした。そこがまた魅力的でした。
お庭も立派でしたし、紅葉の時期はさらに素晴らしいことでしょう。
堺の歴史に触れることができて、興味深かったです。是非、古い建物がお好きなかたといらしてください。

中に入って案内解説板に「京都着倒れ、大阪食い倒れ、堺建て倒れ」という文を見つけました。それほど堺の豪商の町屋は大きかったのでしょう。重文になっているので、中の柱も見事。価値ある建物です。

見どころは楠の一枚板

空襲で焼け野原になった堺の町で焼け残った貴重な町家の中でも、大庄屋の家なのでかなり大きな邸宅である。奥の茶室脇の廊下は楠の一枚板で立派である。

昔の贅沢を極めた豪邸！！堺市は建て倒れの都市！！

大坂夏の陣、第二次世界大戦の堺空襲の2回の大火を免れた数少ない昔の豪邸。
ボランティアの方に教えていただきましたが堺は建て倒れの都市ということで建物にお金かけまくっていたそうです。
高い天井に一枚板の木材などやはりお金かけているなーと思いました！！(*´ω`)

Vieille maison de puissant marchand

Sakai abritait les marchands les plus puissants et influents du Japon du 13ème au 17ème siècle. Cette maison Yamaguchi Juutaku est un témoignage de la richesse de cette famille.
Demeure traditionnelle, calme et typique. A voir si l'on passe dans le Kansai. Accessible avec le tramway Hankai en 25min depuis Tennoji, arret Ayanocho
