Minsmere is rightly famous and today's two very close to hide Bitterns were the icing on the cake. Sadly the cafe experience was dreadful...beans not on toast but half on toast and half on soggy bread...glossy menu description for bacon roll but dry unbuttered roll...More

Many thanks for your feedback, which I have passed on to our Catering Manager. The bacon rolls are served with portions of butter rather than buttered rolls following feedback from many customers who prefer their rolls without butter. For those, including me, who like their...More

Thanks for your feedback. It sounds like you may have been a bit unlucky on your visit as there have been large flocks of ducks on the Scrape this week - though they can be a bit more distant at times due to the size...More

Even at this quite time of year, Minsmere is well worth a visit. There is an abundance of birds to see all over the reserve plus a very decent chance of sighting a Bittern. On sunny days, looking into the sun can be a problem...More

Thanks for your feedback. Our bitterns are certainly showing very well at times at this time of year. If it's a sunny day, we recommend visiting Island Mere Hide early or late in the day to reduce the risk of glare, though if the bitterns...More

This is an extensive - and popular - nature reserve that has been well designed to cope with the large numbers of visitors. There are several marked walking routes, either round the salt marsh reed beds & the meres, along the seashore or through the...More

Many thanks for your feedback. As you discovered, wind is often the worst weather conditions for birdwatching in woodland, but even then it's worth just sitting and waiting for a roving flock to pass by. As you note, many birdwatchers - beginners as well as...More

A party of 4. A 4 x 4 safari to view the deer at Minsmere. There were numerous sightings of the stags and their harems - including other wildlife like Stone Curlews. These were closer encounters than we had in Exmoor. God guide, over 2...More

Many thanks for your feedback. We do try to have at least two volunteer guides out on the reserve each day, sometimes more. They are always happy to help visitors with their enquiries, and if you ask at reception we'll happily point you in their...More

Dogs are not allowed on the nature trails or in hides but there is a 5 mile walk around the reserve on public paths. The RSPB website has information for dog owners on the Plan a Visit page for Minsmere
