Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

No matter what time of the year you visit Minsmere there is never enough time to do what you want because things always take longer. Visit a hide and instead of 15 minutes you spend an hour; a ten minute walk takes 30 because you...More

We had a superb trip to Minsmere over three days. The first day we had a guided walking tour with one of the RSPB volunteers. It was excellent, neither my husband nor I are particularly knowledgeable bird watchers, so to be shown round by an...More

Minsmere consists of 2,000 acres of beautiful, coastal nature reserve, run by the RSPB; adjacent to, and surrounded by National Trust and private estate properties. We saw many species of bird and different wildlife; also, evidence of wildlife. An excellent day out for all the...More

I don't drive, so trips to places like Minsmere are limited and are not easy to arrange. But it was wonderful, the introduction, the hides and the cafe. So great to be just by the sea and see such great wildlife.More

It's great to hear that you enjoyed your visit. Minsmere's relative isolation is one of the things that helps to make the reserve so special for wildlife and visitors - the anticipation always builds as you approach via our long entrance road. While this does...More

Minsmere is a beautiful reserve with lots of information about birds, wildlife and habitat. We spent about five hours here, having a lovely time walking around the reserve between hides. Sitting in a hide, watching birds through some binoculars is simultaneously both exciting and relaxing....More

Thanks for your feedback. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit. Five hours sounds about normal for a visit. We find that most people stay for between two and eight hours, or even longer. We think that perhaps the 55 minutes average is...More

Great introduction to the location by RSPB staff. Lovely walks, great hides and a thoroughly enjoyable few hours. I am sure we will be back at a different time of year to see other birds.

Thanks for your feedback. We have several feeders outside the visitor centre, both in front of reception and outside the café that offer excellent close views of various tits and finches, pheasants, grey squirrels, and even the occasional nuthatch or great spotted woodpecker. As all...More

Great to visit whether a dedicated birdwatcher, or not. Just walking around the reserve is a worthwhile experience with such variety: marshes, beach, dunes, woodland ... Good amenities: cafe, shop, information, toilets, car park.

Dogs are not allowed on the nature trails or in hides but there is a 5 mile walk around the reserve on public paths. The RSPB website has information for dog owners on the Plan a Visit page for Minsmere
