- paula cAtlanta, Georgia807 contributionsNot to be missedWe loved this museum - the entire experience. I have spent a lot of time visiting the NL, and this by far is one of my favorite places. When you arrive you can park your car and ride on one of the bikes to the museum, then the art is awesome - both inside and outside. It is a really worthwhile experience.Visited February 2023Written 23 February 2023

Whole setting is SO lovely - wonderful and extensive sculpture garden. The museum itself specializes in Van Gogh and has other artists as well. - SB1114Irvine, California745 contributionsAmazing!Wow! If you like Van Gogh and interesting sculptures in a beautiful setting, this is for you. In the middle of the national park, if you are driving, you need to buy a parking pass, and pay for admission to the national park. You can use their free bikes to ride to the museum if you’d like, but we drove and parked nearby. There’s also a beautiful sculpture garden to walk around. This museum has the second most van Gogh paintings in the world, so lots that we had never seen before.Visited April 2023Written 12 May 2023
- Cairo27Coventry, United Kingdom134 contributionsWell worth the effort and more…Second largest collection of Vincent Van Gogh paintings in the world and that was my primary reason for visiting. Superb paintings in a superb location. It is an unusual setting but the history of the collector explains why. I agree it takes effort to get here but nothing ventured, nothing gained. It is a must after visiting the VVG museum. We were short of time so took an Uber to the entrance of the park, paid the entrance fee to the park and then biked to the museum. If not use to bikes, better to walk, no brakes on the handle bars but an unusual way to arrive. We used the Amsterdam transport app to calculate how to get back, a bus and train.Took over 2.5 hours travelling to and from central Amsterdam. It was quite popular with the locals too, so busy but not the same amount of people as the other central museums.Classic VVG paintings on display, so if a fan, have to go. Delightful cafe and shop…a faultless museum.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 August 2023

- @martinsinstaphotosSvalbard, Norway30 contributionsUplifting - so much better than the Van Gogh Museum.A bit of a trek but a much more uplifting experience than the sad sad show at the horribly overcrowded Van Gogh Museum in town. The sculpture garden will keep you engaged for a few hours or longer if you like a walk or want to picnic in the grounds. A good slice of the 20th century greats are there. Great art with no crowds and a lovely cafe for lunch-this is what a gallery should be. One of our Uber drivers from the day before was willing to take four of us there and back for 250 euros for the day as an “off-line” deal. He got to run some errands and have a sleep (has a very young family) while we enjoyed the museum and it was way faster than public transport. Please make the effort to visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023

Great indoor and outdoor exposition of art, this place is inside of large park that requires additional fee but in my opinion worth it, spend 6 hours with 2 small kids. Everyone enjoyed this place very much (suitable for good weather).

The museum is fabulous but can it be done as a day trip from Amsterdam? Definitely yes. It does require a certain level of determination but my experience is that the trip is very doable and quite pleasant. I got the train to Ede-Wageningen (31euros return) direct from Amstel in 45mins or you might need to change at Utrecht from other Amsterdam stations. From Ede-Wageningen, I got the 108 to Otterlo Rotonde (every 30 mins so you may have a little wait). You can tap your bank card to pay when you get on and off the bus. You can then pick up the 106 from Otterlo Rotonde at the same stop. I think the buses generally act as a relay so the 106 should be waiting for you. But that’s not guaranteed as I experienced, meaning potentially another 30min wait. That proved a blessing in disguise for me as I decided to walk instead to the museum which was very pleasant. It took a leisurely hour (40mins at a brisk pace) through a lovely little town and then the national park. Entry to the park is 12euros which is on top of the museum entry and I believe is required even if you take the bus. There are free bicycles to use in the park but I can’t ride one! Obviously going home is just the trip in reverse. You could spend a whole day in the national park I imagine but I just got a lovely taste by walking through. So finally the museum! They had a nice exhibition on Italian futurism. I was expecting a few more blockbuster pieces from major museums - particularly bearing in mind how prolific the museum is at lending its own pieces - but perhaps cost pressures came into play. However it was still a very nice exhibition which showed the diverse nature of the movement. The permanent collection is great. Obviously the van Goghs are the crowd pleasers. A word of warning - there are a good number of paintings on display but plenty also not on display so your favourite many not be there - encourages repeat visits! The highlight in my view is the sculpture garden. It is massive and so much to see, the chances are you’ll miss bits. Dubuffet’s Jardin d’Email is the star, it was closed on my first trip a few years back so very happy to be able to wander on it on a beautiful day. I would encourage art lovers to make the trip, it is rare to find a museum in a national park, let alone one with such a stunning art collection plus sculpture garden.

This is a fabulous but relatively small museum focused on Van Gogh but including many other important works in a modern building and including a FABULOUS and Extensive garden with many sculptures and works of art. There also a very nice cafe with a wide variety of choices.

We have been to the Museum twice before and on this trip we will have 3 hours to visit the museum inside and the sculpture garden before driving back to AMS to catch a flight. Is this enough time for a leisurely visit to the Museum? We might be able to also visit the Museum for 1-2 hours the day before prior to closing but we would like to avoid double admission to the park and Museum. We will have exhausted the 5 museum limit using the Museum Card. Thanks.

Are there any small group tours from The Hague? I'd love to go to the KM, but the logistics of getting there by public transit are daunting. The best I've come up with so far is taking the train partway and taxi/Uber the rest of the way.

Are there any private transfer and tour guides from Arnhem for a full day tour to museum?

Hi there are busses form Arnhem, it takes 40 minutes.
You do not need a guide, at the museum you can borrow a handled that guides you into the museum and , do not forget, the park.

Hi there, i m interested to get there from central Amsterdam. How much would a taxi cost for round trip or hire a private driver that day?
And I m still planning my trip in early October, can I buy the ticket when I arrive the museum or I have to book in advance?
Thank you so much

You do not need to book in advance. Nevertheless check on their website as there is a special on Van Gogh where you might have to. You can take a train to Arnhem and then a bus or taxi. Taxi from Amsterdam will be expensive: over € 100 one way.

Hello. How do you pay for the buses? Can we pay the driver for each trip? How much is it? I want to make sure we bring the correct change so there's no fussing. Thank you for taking a minute with me.

Hi!
As a rule, when traveling to new cities,. we try to get day tickets (as opposed to one-ride or one-hour ones).
Although apparently more expensive, they have often proven to be useful due to the inherent lack of background / information you're facing, which easily will have you switching lines or even taking this or that bus one or several stops back (laugh all you want).
Amsterdam has a travel card (7 EUR + fare), similar to the London Oyster. If you decide for this, you can take your card home and return to Amsterdam to re-use it with the unused funds still there.
This being said, we were slightly surprised to see that the last leg of the journey (to and through the park itself up to the museum entry|) was NOT covered by our public transportation and had to be paid IN CASH to the driver of a small Mercedes minivan that would take you to the museum entrance inside the park.
This ride, if memory serves (please comment on this if wrong) was in the neighborhood of 10 EUR for each of us, including the return trip to a bus station where public transportation can be used.
The amount is like a park entry fare including transportation and DOES NOT include the museum entry fare.
In fact, it looks like the museum entry cannot be paid without having previously paid the park entry.
Museum entry fare was paid by card and therefore not in my immediate memory. Somewhere around 10 EUR/person I would say, subject to severe error. Museum cards would probably shave off seriously on this amount.
Convoluted as this my seem, hope it has shed some light.
