- Razia C4 contributionsRoman SiteRemains of the Roman city Italica. Extensive site, and you can wonder at your leisure. Plenty of boards explaining everything. Lovely mosaics. We caught the bus from the centre of Seville and it took about 40 mins. 3 euros each to enter. For fans of GOT, the ampitheatre was used in the filming.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 March 2023
- howiet1971Swindon, United Kingdom1,712 contributions3rd largest Amphitheatre in the worldOnly 7kms from Seville, if you like archaeological sites this is well worth a visit. The main site, the 3rd largest Roman amphitheatre in the world, was used in Game of Thrones. It's a spectacular building. There are many other things to look at, baths, mosaics, and more, none of which is a spectacular as the amphitheatre, so my advice is to leave that until the end. Best to last. I went on a sunday and it wasnt easy to get to so i had to take a tour. Normally, you could get a bus. Also, closed on Mondays.Visited February 2023Written 7 March 2023
- Devon-Elizabeth SHerndon, Virginia180 contributionsRome and Game of ThronesUsed as the dragon pit in Game of Thrones, the coliseum portion of the site is spectacular to behold. Beyond the Roman, theatre is the remains of a full roman town with beautiful mosaics, a public bath, and a gymnasium. The site is well maintained and you do get the feel of what it must have been like to live in the Roman era. As you enter the grounds there is a small museum with a video alternating in English and Spanish about the history of the site. The only downside for me is there was no gift shop to remember the visit with.Visited March 2023Written 18 March 2023
- Graham SHolyhead, United Kingdom228 contributionsA Must SeeThe remains of the Roman city Italica founded in 206 BC. an extensive site far larger than I expected, and a site to wonder at your own pace and explore. Some fantastic mosaics to see and the remains of the amphitheatre are stunning, a small museum on site as well with a short film in Spanish and English explaining the site and there was history boards explaining each building as you walk around and was very surprised at the 3 Euro entry fee great value, if interested in Roman history a must see location.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 April 2023
- NicolaCork, Ireland15 contributionsA good historical tour of Italica & MonasteryNeves was our tour guide and she did an exceptional job. The tour was good and is worth the trip out. She brought us to the Monastery after Italica and this was an excellent addition to the tour. Both are stunning captured pieces of history and if you are into this Neves was full of information and stories. Highly recommend as a half day out. We booked through a tour operator Natura and the pick ups and drops offs on the bus were very organised.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 August 2023

You can pay on the bus and at the information desk they tell you which number it leaves from downstairs. It is a much bigger area than I imagined and probably took us around 2 hours to walk around, there is lots to see We paid 1.5 euro entrance fee it was well worth it.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 October 2023

We got a taxi here which cost €18 from the centre of Seville. For some reason we didn’t have to pay, not sure why but I’ll take it. The site itself was great, bigger than I realised it would be. Some well preserved mosaics and lots of interesting facts.
Well worth a visit.

This had been on my list of things to do even before we knew we were coming to Spain. Like many people, we knew it was a Game of Thrones filming location, for the King's Landing dragon pit. Apparently the production team built a platform to protect the area, for the biggest character gathering in Game of Thrones history.
We had budgeted 2hrs of time here and we spent less than an hour, but we also had twin toddlers, in the baking sun. Thankfully, while it's hilly here and there, it is accessible, so we brought our double stroller with us. There isn't a dedicated parking lot for the location. There is a bit of street parking and probably indicative of how there isn't a huge rush of people that come here.
There was a small metal 'bridge' that was narrow, steep and had high rails. We didn't try to get our stroller over it but it perhaps wasn't wide enough. It was only €1.50/ea for us adults to enter and our kids were free. From June-September, it apparently opens at 9am (closed Mondays but we got there closer to 11:30am. There were hardly any people there at that time and it was a Saturday in July, 2022. The signs were all in Spanish that we saw but we did use our google translate app to read them and/or take pictures of them to translate later.
My husband didn't immediately realize this was the filming location for Game of Thrones until I mentioned it to him so it's definitely not super noticeable and if you didn't know prior, you wouldn't probably make the connection, even if you had watched Game of Thrones. There wasn't a whole lot to see as it is just ruins but you know that going in.

Pro: Beautiful and very interesting archaeological park. Definitely worth a visit!
Con: The park was supposed to close at 3 PM, but we were already told at 2 PM that it’s time to leave. The employees there seem to be quite unmotivated and lazy and unfriendly to visitors. I do not speak Spanish and still they kept talking to me in Spanish.

This was an unexpected surprise on our trip- the Ruins of Italica were incredible. So many mosaics that are in good shape still and such a rich history here. We are so glad we went there!

This is the site of old Roman ruins dating to about 200 BC. Only a portion of this site has been excavated but it is a must-see if you are in Seville. The site is about 30 km from the city. MAGNIFICIENT!
