Perhaps the young women working at the museum are pretty fed up of having to show the same things over and over, as we found the staff looked bored and were just going through the motions. Although polite, they were verging on the catatonic. The icing on the cake, or should I say bread, was the unmanned cafeteria, the little train "not working" (very disappointing for our little ones after a long car ride to get there), the restaurant - only open at the weekend and the mean 90 second ride on the carrousel. Do it properly and wake up or don't bother. The museum exhibits are very interesting. Such a shame as on that day, the place was definitely not worth the rather expensive admission fee.

Last time I was in Serra da Estrela I went to Seia to visit the Bread Museum (open since 2002) unique museum in the world shows the whole process of making bread from the grain to the bread.
The museum as four diferent rooms, a fine restaurant, a bar with a great view, a grocery store with typical products from the region.
Entrance only costs € 2!
Don´t miss it.

Great stop for a visit if you are around the area. Good informational rooms, explaining the evolution and importance of bread in our culture. Didn’t like to go up and down over the different floors with little children, they should have been prepared for little ones and also disabled people, which is not, although understandable since it’s located on the hill. Admissions 5euro and children don’t pay.
Before the visit, take a coffee on their beautiful scenic cafe on the first floor.
After the visit, give a try to the restaurant, lunch was great.

I would have loved to visit this quint little museum but unfortunately the bread museum has moved to where the toy museum was. A helpful local needed to show me the way and unfortunately at 5pm it was closed, even though opening hours displayed stated 6pm closure.

This museum is absolutely surprising. Came here with my wife and baby, just because tripadvisor marked it nearby. What a great great surprise!!
If you have at least an hour, do yourself a favor and visit this place. The entry for adults is € 5 but well worth every cent. There are four rooms with so much interesting and curious information about the bread ancient production techniques and bread kinds. We learned a lot. Definitely recommend it to everyone, younger or eldest.
At the end, they have a small surprise for the children, they bake a round piece of bread that children make by themselves with their name and decoration. Very beautiful. You can also take lots of pictures as they have small size houses and set ups!
They have had 1 million visitors in 10 years, so you can't really go wrong!!!
There's also a shop with local products and a cafe with great views of the landscape.

The museum itself has a nice part for little kids, where they can make their own bread. The adult part is filled with history and explanations related to the region and the bread making process. There is a local products shop where you can buy some amazing cheese, bread, wine and other products. If you visit on Christmas time, the decoration is really good =)

Somehow we came across the Museu do Pao on the internet & added it as a lunch stop on our trip to the Serra da Estrela. The museum is a little work to find but the views are nice from atop the hill overlookng Seia. The restaurant is packed with families on Sunday so we recommend calling ahead. Luckily since there was only 2 of us, they squeezed us in. The buffet is a nice mix of local cuisine and 5 types of bread! Afterwards we also toured the museum, which features a lot of information on the importance of bread in Portuguese history. I think the museum & restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Very nice museum, lot to see and learn. Cute coffee shop in the middle of it. Special attention payed to children - there is a workshop where they can make a souvenir and beautiful carousel outside of museum. For adults - political and sociological role of bread in history and bread in art part.
