Following a fantastic free tour of East Berlin with Chris Cooke, we've decided to go to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp in a guided tour, as well. The meeting point was at the Brandenburg Gate, near Starbucks. Our tour guide was Sam Noble, who really impressed us with his knowledge, his presentation skills, passion for history and charisma. Despite the cold weather... More

It's a deep and sad experience, of course, since we're talking about a massacre. But at the same time, it's enriching for people who like history. Being able to see original documents, rooms, structures and furniture, it's unique. Go with comfortable shoes and clothes, and rent an audio guide in your language, right at the entrance.

Seeing this was incredibly sad, but it's important that we never forget what happened, and this helps remind us.

My family and I visited this attraction knowing it would be heart wrenching. To see what people suffered through and to know that this was done to any human being was terrible. We were amazed at the honestly of the German people in showing what was done and not hiding. They warned everyone so that it might never happen again.... More

About 35 kms from the Centre of Berlin. There are numerous tours ranging from the very cheap to extremely expensive. Ours cost $ 35 for two + train tickets. The tour was excellent value for money. Sachsenhausan Concentration Camp was built in 1936 and the model was widely used for other other concentration camps scattered throughout Germany and Eastern Europe.... More

If you are in Berlin this is one place you must visit. We did a guided tour with Sandemans and it was well worth it. Take the time to remember the atrocities humans have done and the past and do your part in making sure we do not repeat the mistakes of the past by spreading love and open mindedness... More

So glad we took the time on this trip to travel to Sachsenhausen. I think what struck us all was gaining an insight into the terrible conditions these poor people of different ethnic races, political beliefs, religions, sexual preferences etc (and many who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time) were made to endure. It was very... More
