From the exterior this church is not that impressive. The beauty of this low but long old church which originally dates from the 15th century is revealed in the interior where almost every inch of the walls are covered in frescoes dating from the 17th century. The tour guide that we had was an expert on the interpretation of these... More

Like all churches in Bulgaria when it was occupied by the Ottomans this one had to be built low as a respect to the Islamic rulers. The church is full of wonderful icons and we were also lucky enough to have a Bulgarian orthodox choir singing for us for tem minutes, If you are in Arbanasi this is a must... More

This church is amazing, wall-to-wall with well-kept murals. It dates from the 15th century and is in amazingly good condition. From the outside, you would barely know it is a church. Allegedly the patriarch wanted to keep it low-key to avoid attracting attention from the periodic invasions into the area. The tour guides are excellent. No photography is allowed inside.

This cute little church is typical of the area with wall to wall icons. I really enjoyed my tour, but would have been happier if they had authorized photos.

This wonderful little church deserves its nickname. It had beautiful, original frescoes on every surface. Our guide was excellent.

The art work in the church is a hidden gem. Photographs in the Church are however not allowed, but it is well worth the 10 minute drive from Veliko Tarnovo. Also in Arbasini are old houses depicting the living conditions of years gone by.

The Church was built during the 15th century where nearly every inch of the vaulted interior was covered in paintings and frescoes. The stone structure appeared to be quite ordinary when viewed from outside but once you stepped indoor, you would be surprised with what you saw. No photos were allowed in order to preserve the paintings better but we... More

The icons and frescoes in this church are some of the best preserved in the world. This historic site looks very ordinary from the outside but once you step in, you'll understand why the locals work hard to maintain this most unsual property. Every square inch of the walls and the ceiling are painted with beautiful scenes either from the... More
