Our Nagoya walking tour guide Rumiko recommended this wonderful hot spring resort and even showed us where we could take the Meitetsu bus from Nagoya to Nagashima Spa Land.

The bus stops first at Nabana no Sato, a place full of flowers and is famous for its winter light illuminations from October to December. Since we were not much interested in flora, we skipped this and got off at the last stop, the Nagashima Resort, a theme park with a lot of roller coasters and rides.

We asked the personnel there for directions to Yuami no Shima, and were directed to a free shuttle bus which brought us behind the resort to the hot springs. Don't worry, the roller coasters and ferries wheel don't overlook the hot springs; your privacy is safe.

The onsen has indoor and outdoor baths on the first floor, a relaxing area on the second floor where you can sleep or have a massage, and a dining area on the third floor. Towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided, and for the women's dressing area there were shiseido lotions for use after the bath. So no need to bring toiletries unless you are very particular about your hair & skin care products.

It was extremely enjoyable, relaxing, and the staff were so friendly and willing to help us inexperienced foreigners navigate the ticket-buying, locker-finding and yukata-choosing for a complete onsen experience.
I especially noticed the accessibility of all the baths and read on a website that it is specially designed for accessibility to persons with limited mobility.

After soaking in the alkaline waters of Yuami no Shima, surrounded by nature and the view of little waterfalls, you will be uplifted in mind and spirit and your body will thank you for the pampering.

This onsen is located within Nagashima resort. Accessible via bus from Kuwana station. Japanese style onsen - separate bathing areas for male and female. With around 10 different types of baths: some with massage jet spray. Also had cold bath and sauna. Ticket admission includes towels and yukata. Lockers are also provided for you to store bags & clothing. There is discounted entry after 3pm (around 500 yen cheaper) so we planned our day to do shopping first next door at the outlets then visit the onsen.

Made a right choice visiting this onsen after shopping for a few hours next door in Mitsui Outlet Park Jazz Dream. Entrance fee is JPY1500. This onsen is huge with few floors. All basic amenities are provided free. Express bus runs directly from Nagoya Station to Nagashima Onsen in approx. 50 mins. Fare is JPY1060 for single trip or JPY1900 for round trip.

A must visit for onsen buffs. A complete onsen facility where one can spend a long restful time here. We did our soak after a whole day at the resort's amusement park and shopping. A great way to wind down the day in a multiple pool relaxing soak. There were 5-6 different outdoor onsens and each had its unique setting. At the other end was the water jet massaging pool. We got our tickets together with the amusement park, its an extra JPY700. Big lockers to keep your belongings. The walkway back to the amusement park carpark closes at 9pm. Very convenient.

This place was awesome! We sampled quite a few sentos and onsen during our one month trip to Japan and this was our favourite.

We came to this onsen after spending the day at the theme park next door. It was only 800 yen if you arrived via the theme park and you are provided with robes and towels. There was a huge outdoor area which was really nicely landscaped. There was a stream running through it and even some waterfalls. There were plenty of different baths to sample. Nightfall came during our time there and the full moon came out.

We went to our separate bathing areas for maybe an hour before meeting up in the communal area in our yakutas for a meal. The dining area was huge and there were big tv screens set up for people to watch as they ate. There were a few different food outlets around the edge of the dining hall that you could chose from. Some had their own separate dining areas. We chose a couple of dishes which we shared. They were reasonably priced but the food that we had was pretty average. The katsu wasn't as good as we thought it would be. The gyoza were ok. We also had a noodle set which came with sides and rice.

We went back for a second time to the onsen area and I moved around to try all of the outdoor pools. I particularly liked the footbaths which overlooked the stream that glistened in the light of the full moon. There were silver baths, massage baths, standing baths and even an electric bath (I'm not a fan of those). We left the onsen feeling warm and refreshed.

If you are not familiar with onsens, please read up on onsen etiquette before you go.

Got drenched on one of the roller coasters at the amusement park so went to the onsen to warm up.... it sure did the trick. Pools were various levels of HOT!! Many outside set amongst the gardens, it was a perfect escape for an hour or two. So relaxing and calm - facilities so clean. No bathers allowed (which is the norm for Onsens) so be prepared to don the birthday suit. Men and women have seperate areas.
