Main beach in Gokarna is good for a long walk, watching the sunset, swimming and having a picnic with family and friends. Very family and kids friendly beach. Only problem that I saw was pollution on the beach with beer bottles and considerably more dogs. Kundla beach is nice with some more water sports and friendly people. Om beach is good and nice. But it is overhyped. The path from Kundla beach to the om beach needs more direction signs.Visited January 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 January 2023
- Prasad19 contributionsGOKARNAWe visited Gokarna from 06 Jan to 09 Jan 2020 and while there visited the Mahableshwar Temple, the Kudle beach, Om beach and the Gokarna main beach near the Mahableshwar temple. The maintenance of the beaches were satisfactory only, but the GOKARNA MAIN BEACH was pathetic. The Gokarna main beach was full of dogs, stray cattle, litter and the devotees using the beach enmasse for morning ablutions in the open...a real pathetic and disgusting sight for tourists. The vehicle parking was also Hap hazard, not orderly/supervised. Overall Gokarna beach not a tourist friendly beach. The area around the temple also needs attention....Visited January 2020Travelled with friendsWritten 20 January 2020

This might be the longest beach in Gokarna and is situated a bit far from the other beaches. It is however closer to the Mahabaleshwar Temple and hence you can see many pilgrims taking bath there before offering their puja. The part directly in front of the temple is extremely crowded and is frequented by pilgrims so it might be little awkward for youngsters (particularly ladies) to bathe here in their swimming costumes or shorts. But you can easily skip the crowd if you go a km or more inside the beach away from the temple. Here crowd is also very less, the shacks are also present and you can just leave your things behind in the shack and go and take a dip in the calm waves. We went to this beach near the evening just before taking the return bus and enjoyed a beautiful pre-sunset. Unfortunately we could not wait till the sunset due to lack of time but I am pretty sure the sunset here would have been awesome. Do try the french cafe called Chez Christophe in the quieter part of the beach. We went there just to get some relief from the scorching sun, and they were kind enough to let us stay as long as we wanted even though we ordered just 3 breezers. We even sat with them and enjoyed the last 10 overs of a cricket match with them.

Traditionally one needs to bath in waters of this beach before getting into adjacent temples of Mahabaleshwar and Ganpati.

It is the the longest beach in Gokarna. There are a couple of water sports available at the beach like kayaking. The beach is situated very near to the bus stand and famous Mahabaleshwar temple. The place has a lot of food shacks and eateries. I tried Sunset Cafe and Cafe Chez Christophe. Both were really good but I would recommend trying out Chez Christophe for sure.

For me, Gokarna main beach is the best beach in Gokarna. The north part of the beach is very clean and has white sand. Take any access to the beach after the bus stand and you will reach less crowded portion of beach. There are many clean and hygienic shacks located here. The food served in most of the shacks is tasty. Most of them also have arrangement to stay overnight. Staying on Gokarna main beach is definitely a memorable experience. Also, this is an alcohol restricted beach. So you will get only beer and hard drinks are not allowed. Also, swimming is not allowed in this beach. Inspite of all this, i still feel this is the best beach in Gokarna.

Me and my wife started our 3 day trip of Gokarna by LTT Matsyagandha train which started at 4 pm from Thane and we reached Gokarna by next day morning 7.30 am, train was late... We booked Zostel in advance. The reason for booking Zostel is because of the bird eye view which it offers of Gokarna beach . Secondly we booked a private room at just 2500/- per night. Which I think no other hotel will offer....Remember Zostel is not a proper hotel don't expect much like TV and daily towels and all that stuff. There myntra cafe has the best taste. You must try Kozhi Varuval, it is kabab chicken blended with South Indian spices.. It's the best.. I tried gun powder chicken and ghee roasted chicken but to me they were not that good. And with beer both the starters don't go. You cannot bring your own beer in this cafe.. You will have to buy it from there only. But beers are reasonable.. I bought budwiser magnum at 240/- per can. If you bring your own beer than u have to drink it in common area or in your room.. They even do not give room service you have to take your parcel from Myntra bar.. Cocktails are pretty expensive like blue laggon was for 350/- per glass. This was it about zostel and myntra. We hire one scooty from Aryadurga who charges 350 rs for 24 hrs.. He is a nice guy and give 2 helmet with a scooter.. Scooter Delivery charges are extra.. We were there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.. All peaks tourist days but the scooty charges were lower at this guy only.. Other guys we're asking for 500 rs per day. Restaurants you must try when you are gokarna.. First one is myntra cafe of zostel for nonveg food, for breakfast you must go to Ramnivas.. They have zabardast aloo puri and pulav rice for breakfast.. And it is always packed with people as they have only 4 tables. Third breakfast and lunch hotel is Udipi.. It's as very small hotel run by old uncle. He is very genuine person and serves softest dosas.. But it dnt like there chutney and sambar.. He also serves lunch for just 60 rs thali.. Thali is a hit and miss.. Some items you will like some dnt. I went because of the humblness of the uncle and soft dosas. Fourth hotel is which i recommend but personally I have not visited . it is Halfway home Gokarna they have the best wood fire pizza( timing from 5 pm onwards only) , veg thali (any time) and kombuchu, this is a special drink which I have only heard about. Final place if you are craving for chat pata chat item in evening..this palce is called Kailsh Bhelpuri..this young guy seriously sell best ragda puri..the ragda is made of pav bhaji bhaji but I can bet you will love the chat here..place is little bit untidy and unhygenic but you will love the chat items here.....That's it for food.. Now coming to the places I covered in three days are.. First day I covered Yana caves near gokarana.. By bike it takes around 2 hrs to reach the caves. Than 2-3 hrs at cave.. You have to walk for atleast 20-30 min from parking point.. Total time take at caves is 2-3 hrs .. 10 rs entry fees is there.. Wear proper shoes as it can become slippery on mud. Next day I went to Honnavar.. Here you can enjoy mangrove boat ride from Mavinkurva village...put this place on google map and go only by national highway 66..dnt go from inside roads if you are coming from gokarna... The boat ride take around 1.30 hrs .. They charges me 1000 rs for whole boat ... I have used boat of Mr. Prakash, his mobile no is 95383 65219...he is a very genuine guy and really wants people to explore the place.. He has stayed few years in Mumbai so he speaks good hindi, little bit marathi n English and his local language.. He is the best person I feel for boating. For boating Go in early morning or dnt forget to bring umbrella as it become too hot in afternoon.. Mangrooves boat ride is awsome and gives feel of Kerala... Then next place is Kandla mangroves boardwalk.. This place is very well developed by govt of Karnataka.. You will love it.. Entry fees is 10 rs. Next I went to Apsarkonda waterfall.. Which I feel is not at all worth.. I dnt know why this fall is so famous.. Next stop is Pavinkurva hanging bridge which I think you should also skip not much to see... Then I went to nirvana beach.. Beach is neat and clean but there is not much to explore.. Also the ferry boat for bike transportation is also shut.. So if you want to go to gokarna from nirvana beach than pls do not come by this route.. Third day I went to see local beach of gokarna, i. e. Gokarna beach, Om beach, paradise beach and kudle beach.. May be due to rainy season exect paradise beach all the beaches very dirty, stinking and what not.. I dnt like the beaches of Gokarna.. Every where beer bottles and trash on beaches.. I dnt know why it is but beaches are not at all clean.. You will not enjoy it much.. Paradise beach is good but it is very difficult to reach.. First of all you have to ride your bike through mud road and secondly you have to hike through jungle to reach this place. This beach is little bit difficult to reach.. Follow goggle maps strictly as there as no sign board to reach this beach. That's it for Gokarna trip.. I hope I have covered all points. Avoid my English, grammer and spelling mistake. I hope this info will help you. I have tried to give juice of what can be done in gokarna.

Paradise Beach is best but there are some spots between Om and Paradise that are also nice ~ use caution of the cliffs when camping or hiking there :)

Hi Shibin,
Paradise beach is best for camping in gokarna.
it is little bit far from crowded om beach and you have to trek or take boat to reach there.
Another option is kumta beach which is almost 30km far from gokarna.
