One of the best holy spots in Gokarna
Nov 2018 • Business
Had visited this artificial pond in Gokarna a long back ago. It is a popular tourist attraction and is visited by tourists.

This artificial pond is one of the sacred places to visit in Gokarna. It is surrounded by temples, monasteries and residential houses on all sides. It is also used for ritual bathing and immersion of idols. In the middle of the pond, there is a small Shiva Linga and a tall lamp post which Illuminates the place in the evenings. As this pond is deep, many Hindu pilgrims have died every year. So please beware. There is a legend associated with this pond. However, this place is in need of maintenance.

This artificial pond is an ideal holy place for Hindu pilgrims who consider it as sacred. It is a must visit place and should not be missed while in Gokarna.

Authentic place
Jan 2019
Real India - lots of temples, interesting architecture, cows in every corner, not really clean water, strange looking and friendly people. Magic atmosphere in the evening.

I went to Kotitirtha. A man made tank, Kotitirtha is considered to be extremely sacred and is used for ritual bathing and immersing idols. The tank is surrounded by temples on all sides. It is great place to go.

A holy pond
Oct 2018 • Couples
It is a stepped rectangular pond spread over 6 acres. There are temples around the pond.
'Karthika Deepotsava' (festival of lamps during Karthika masa of Hindu Calendar) is an event during which oil lamps are lit along the steps.

Auspicious place for performing the pindadaan (rituals for deceased elders in the family)
Mar 2018 • Family
This is a place considered as auspicious as Badrinath, Kashi for performing the final rituals to the deceased all family members (from both the partners side) . Brahmin pujaris who perform the rituals are available in the place. Place is fairly clean. Charges are very reasonable.
Piligrims who intend to do the rituals can directly go to the place instead of taking ticket at Mahabaleswar temple (who also facilitiate in undertaking this ritual. But are too costly).
Pilgrims can have bath in the tank before performing the puja which takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Should go before 1230 hrs as after that , the rituals are generally not performed.

This pond is situated near to Mahabaleswara temple. If you are a very religious person then go for it otherwise there is nothing to see ,and very poorly maintain. Doing circles around pond is considered auspicious.
