As the title implies, I would take someone who has either never skied before or hasn't for a very long time. But for anyone in the advanced and expert categories, it's only worth it if the veritcal drop is open. I paid for a full day but I was done in a couple of hours. I mean don't get me wrong, there are some beautiful views of Lake Tekapo from the Von Braun Cafe. However, even if the vertical drop was open I would only recommend a half day pass if you're just visiting for a couple of days or if purchasing a season pass is not economically viable.

Great place to ski.........the learner slope is great as its long and safe. The higher runs are great too for the more experienced. The little shops has a small range of food and drinks. All the hire equipment seems quite new also.

The view back down over Lake Takapo is worth the drive alone.......also the road up to Roundhill is very safe and easy to navigate compared to some of the other ski fields.

Round hill is just a half hour down the lake and has all the facilities you need.
We often grab the beginners package to get up to speed as it gives you a lesson ski hire and learners slopes, you can then upgrade to a full all lifts pass for the Second half if the day.
The views are spectacular.

First time skiing here and it was a real gem. Loved the 'von Brown' cafe at the top of the chair. Skied for 2 days. Perfect for families and intermediates. Will check out the 'vertical' when I am feeling braver.

Not crowded at all!! Jump and rails, amazing views from the ski runs and cafe. The food on the mountain is reasonably priced which makes a change. One tip, if you're hiring your gear on the mountain, make sure you take photo ID.

We have been here many times with our extended family and each time have been very impressed. They have created a niche for being a family ski field. Kids under 5 ski free as long as you take them with you to the ticket office. You can park right up against the ski field and we always take a portable BBQ, camp chairs, table and set up for the day. There are 20 of us so there is heaps of space to spread out, great to be right on the ski field and be able to access your car right there, plus be very close to the platter lift to watch the little ones ski independently. The staff are very friendly and if you need help they are there - they will even slow the platter lift down if its your first ride. There is no mad rush like on the commercial fields - its refreshing. The cafe is warm and toasty with food and drinks you can purchase, there is ski hire on the mountain. If you go to the top of the t-bar and get off on the left, there is a little cafe just a short ski away that is a great place to have a afternoon beer/wine while you sit on sheepskin lined benches and relax watching the stunning view of Lake Tekapo. Life does not get any better than that! A great ski field that caters well for families!

Just had the most epic day up Roundhill. Beautiful snow and the guys got first tracks on the nutcracker all day. Friendly staff, groovy cafe bluebird day with 25cm new snow. Jelly legs and tired smiles now 😀

my 17yr old son spent the day skiing on this field, we took him here as we were staying in Tekapo and I had found memories of this ski field more than 25yrs ago. I like to call it a boutique ski field as it is small with runs that are not too challenging. the rope tow to the ridge with the black runs was not open due to lack of snow, but the t bar lifts were sufficient. there is a cafe there, its a bit pricey but the food, coffee and mulled wine was nice. the views from the top of the t-bar are spectacular

Best little ski field I've been to. Reasonable prices, no crowds on the slopes, no crowds in the cafe, good ski hire, friendly ski school, park you car right next to the snow & away you go!
Only 1 beginners poma & 1 main T-Bar, but they access a large variety of slopes & terrain, including a few jumps. Plenty for beginners to intermediate but advanced skiers & boarders might get bored after a day. Full sun on the slopes all day.
We skiied all the big fields in NZ: Coronet peak, Remarkables, Cardrona etc and the 2 days here were better by far. Loved it!

After going to Cardrona we thought this may be similar, man were we wrong, nothing like it. Definitely for beginners and we wouldn't eat at the store. Pies, sausage rolls and not much else.
