What an amazing place, beautiful blue lake lined with colourful lupins and poppies. Great to walk around and the views with the mountains in the background are amazing. Don't forget to head up Mount John even if you are not doing and Earth and Sky tour (weather was too cloudy whilst we were there), and the views of Lake Tekapo... More

Tekapo never disappoints. Winter or summer, the scenery is spectacular. This visit I booked the Earth and Sky tour to Mt John Observatory. We were told there was only a 15% chance of seeing stars due to cloud cover, so we could cancel if we wanted. Most people did, but 4 others and I stuck with it. Boy, did that... More

We chose to stay here rather than the bigger and busier Twizel for visiting Mt Cook National Park. Very pretty mountain ringed glacial lake. Lupins are a weed and can be found on many places, but are pretty. Plenty of places to eat, some better than others and quite busy with tour buses coming for the views and the church.... More

The views from Lake Tekapo is absolutely stunning. On a fine day the waters are very blue and lovely with the Southern Alps in the background. There are many pink and purple Lupins planted around the lake and you might even spot some fauna around. Unfortunately we did not get to stay in this area for an extended time but... More

If you haven't been then add it to your bucket list. Lake Tekapo, New Zealand in later November each year erupts into colour with a dazzling display of Russell Lupins that complement the already spectacular backdrop of the lake and Southern Alps. Anecdotedly, the lupins are not indigenous to New Zealand and are classified as a weed but they have... More

The lake was beautiful Turkish blue. Many walking trails available around the area. We traveled with elder people (60+) and they enjoyed walking around the lake as well. Supposed to take air safaris, it was a pity that sometimes it was too windy to take off. Better to reserve 1-2 more days in the area to ensure you can find... More

More beautiful than I thought, with the view of mount cook at the other end of the lake, Would love to come back again during winter or summer. Apparently you could see a very beautiful milky skies at night if the weather is good, so book your accomodation near by if you plan to visit lake Tekapo.

One of the most amazing views, ever. I actually discovered Lake Tekapo through a computer screensaver, and was determined to visit ever since! You only need a few hours here since the town is tiny and not much to do, other than frolicking in the lupins (purple plants) and taking pictures of the church. The lupins start blooming around November,... More
