It was easy to miss this almost life size statue, and so we returned the next day to find it. Colonel Malone was a couageous officer and those who have been to Gallipoli will know the story. Definitely worth seeing

Lieutenant Colonel Malone whilst originally born in England, immigrated to NZ in the late 1800s and and soon became active and important to the local community. A Stratford man, He commanded the Taranaki Rifles (the famous NZ lemon squeezer hat was invented by him to acknowledge Mt Taranaki) and later the Wellington Battalion during Gallipoli. We arrived late but they were able to offer us a good range of food and the service was very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend

This is a great statue of Colonel Malones. If you know the history behind the man it is well worth the visit. You can also check out the local restaurant that is named after him.

Cool bronze statue of colonel malone a NZ war hero. Definitely check out if you like your history and you can go have a meal down the road at the local restaurant also named after colonel malone.
