A long drive between Taumaranui and Stratford. Road narrow in places and part unsealed. Spectacular scenery and a great view of Tongariro and Ruapehu. The hills are a vivid reminder of the volcanic eruptions of the past - lovely valleys and spectacular native bush. This...More

This is one of the best drives I've done - you really do feel like you're transported back in time 50-60 years. However, the road is the same - it's a very narrow and winding road, if you don't like narrow roads and 150km of...More

Fantastic scenery and views but you do need to take care! The road is narrow and subject to washout and landslips. Well worth doing, though.

Worth doing once. Although the day we drove through , weather was not too bad , overcast and then later pouring with rain, but it is a good drive with walks and sceneries that are worth stopping..Time taken is about 4hours...not raken into consideration of...More

Possibly depends on the difficulty. There are stops along the way and there are sleepers and gravel. Have a chat to the staff before booking they're v friendly and helpful.
