Stunning stained glass windows and Japanese botanical garden in the heart of Toluca. My GF is a design buff so she loved this.
GF and I flew back from Zihuatanejo and landed in Toluca. With rental car we went to thr city centre. Parked right across from the Cosmovitral for 2 hours to see the stained glass windows and a bite for lunch. Parking is cheap.
There are a few interesting pretty churches around the Cosmovitral but not a lot else.
This stop worked for us as we left Toluca and drove south to Taxco for a few days and then to Mexico City (CDMX).
Toluca is very industrial so not the prettiest of cities in Mexico. However, the airport is not busy and we avoided having to drive thru CDMX with its endless traffic jams. Our plan worked well.

It is a very large garden, where there is a wide variety of plants ranging from medicinal plants to very beautiful roses.
It is a quiet place where you can enjoy the scent of nature and even have a good time in contact with nature.
A beautiful view can be seen through the colored glass that covers all the walls. It is a unique experience either alone or in company.
I like it a lot because you can enjoy a climate that is artificial in a certain way but that is still charming, you enjoy getting to know the great diversity of plants and animals.

The main attraction here is the glassworks and the botanical garden completed the scene.
The place is one of those individual art pieces of character. If you are in Toluca you must visit and enjoy the soothing music and the fine glass art.
This place used to be a market place then was converted into an attraction.
There’s a small Japanese corner/ garden where you can also see some fishes, Jasmine and simple Japanese decorations.
The Japanese garden fountain wasn’t working when I visited.
I think that you should dedicate perhaps an hour or slightly less to enjoy and give yourself sometime for couple of photographs with artistic backgrounds.

This place is very beautiful, there are many plants inside, there are plants from different places, names etc. It is a place where plant lovers can go. You can throw a coin into the water and make a wish. The atmosphere feels very fresh due to the abundant nature and the figurines on the walls are very striking and give this place a special touch.

We loved visiting the botanical garden. It’s very well maintained and very beautiful. It’s in the middle of the city and not big. You could actually visit it in 20 min, but there is such a peaceful ambiance to it that you could also stay longer.

It is a vey nice place, where you can take a little time to relax and comfortable. It is a very friendly place because they allow you to walk down the little halls and take pictures, see the ponds and have a great memory of the visit.
Something i don´t like completely the momento i visit the place, the Little hospitality of the person at the entrance was a Little rude. However, that did not affect at all how beautiful and quiet the place is, where you can get some air and enjoy the variety of flora that there are.

I had never seen a botanical garden so well cared for with so many species of plants and in a magical environment with those stained glass windows that made it seem like we were in another world. It is highly recommended. The price is not expensive at all and it is a must see.

While in Toluca, visited this place with a friend. It is a botanical garden with volcanic rock. The plants are all incredible, plus there is the added bonus of the stainglass windows.

I am looking for an English speaking guide that is knowledgeable about Toluca area and the magical towns around Toluca to guide a group of 20 people in March 2019? Tour guide or travel agency recommendations please.

Hello. How can I get to Cosmovitral Jardin Botanico from Mexico City? Are there day tours? I wont have a car and would rather not use the bus system.
Written 11 October 2016
Hi,
The bus service from Mexico City and Toluca is not a bad one, I have traveled by that. If you don't want to rent a car nor take the bus, it is rather difficult. There was a plan for a local train, but I am not sure if that was implemented or not. Seriously, please give the bus service another chance.. enjoy the visit.

OK. That posted. I will expand a bit. The original building has a glass roof and glass around the upper two thirds. An artist, Leopoldo Flores, designed the massive stained glass mural to fill the window space all the way around the building. The piece was titled Cosmovitral, which is now the name of the building. It combined the Spanish words cosmos and vitral, which means light. It was supposed to show man's relationship to the universe.
