It was a wet and windy day and seemed a good place to spend a few hours. Very informative and gave a good history of the area. We also had a trip on the narrow boat Still Waters, worth a visit.

Myself and my partner live just around the corner from the museum and decided to pop in one day while we had a walk down the canals. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It's a short visit but it's good fun. They have a couple of old streets you can walk down and some shops you can... More

Lovely little museum, our two sons aged 3&4 enjoyed looking in all the sections that portray scenes from the past. Would certainly go again if in the area. Only gripe was that the cafe refuses to do hot food ten minutes before it states it stops doing so. Will eat elsewhere next time!

A family friendly, well thought out museum with lots of hands on activities for young and not so young. A great record of local history with a special emphasis on transportation, with the canal network at the centre of the topic.

The displays are tired but the curatorial staff have worked hard to make the best of it all and create a visitor centre and educational attraction. It works best as the latter but even then fails to grab the attention of kids.

A lovely place to visit at the junction of the Manchester, Huddersfield and Peak Forest canals. You don't have to be into canals to visit, there is a good display of locally building static engines and a simulation of a street in days gone by. Along with a model railway and lots of information about canals, locks etc. Well worth... More

Brill for kids and adults we had a fab day. Loved the Victorian street and the kids went away happy with lots of information. In warmer months you can do the canal boats too.
