A nice flat walk in the cool of the forest. It was hot when we did this hike, and we were grateful for the constant shade. Walk from the western end towards the waterfall. We returned the same way (I.e didn’t climb the steps to the Fanal). Do wear good walking boots - the path is pretty muddy in places where the lavada over flows.

Beautiful and mostly easygoing walk, almost entirely flat. Perfect if you have been doing a lot of strenuous hiking and want to get out, but not do anything too taxing. There were a couple of challenging sections after heavy rain, but only because we didn't want wet feet (which was sort of inevitable). (We saw others stomping around without a care in the world). In some areas, the Levada was overflowing. There were also areas of mud which were more than ankle deep, meaning there were portions of the walk which required some shuffling and straddling to navigate. Not too bad, apart from effectively single file sections, when someone else was coming towards us! That said, we rarely saw other people. Only one spot was truly a bit scary, as it required a large confident stride where the Levada was broken and the ground eroded. All the beautiful birdsong more than made up for any worrisome moments.

We knew the walk was through woodland, but hadn't realised it would be 95% shade, so it was quite cool at times. This could be handy during warmer times of year, but in February, I enjoyed when the sun broke through the trees. I'd read somewhere that people suggested insect repellent year round. We weren't bothered, but that could be because we were there immediately after rainfall. Another couple of days later could have been different.

We followed advice from a blog which said that the stairs weren't worth it, so we started at the opposite end. It was about three hours from the lay-by for car parking to the Viewpoint (a big clearing in the trees) and back to our starting point, going relatively slowly enjoying our surroundings.

Again, we did a levada walk with nature at it´s best. Breathtaking hike in almost apocalyptic circumstances. It´s a little bit elevation in the beginning and at the end. But really, nature was so unreal close to us at this hike

Far from being the prettiest levada. We approached this according to the route of the Rother guide, namely loop 11.1 kms. Views are rare.
Compared to the beauty of the Fanal forest, it is rather a disappointment.
