This museum attempts to tell the history of Hesse. It mainly aims to achieve this by preserving old buildings from the various parts of the state which have been brought here and reassembled, then inside these buildings, various stories are being told. One could discuss if certain not so cheerful chapters of 20th-century German history need to be addressed, or... More

This wonderfully preserved village is interesting and is very well-done with English explanations and some demonstrations. Medieval renovated houses and farms plus later 19th century museums and displays make it a very worthwhile day's outing.

We spent a lovely couple days at Hessenpark for the wedding ceremony and reception for our friends. It was a beautiful park- very clean and the exhibits were nicely taken care of. The reception venue was also very nice and the staff were great throughout the evening!

Arriving after lunch, we were never going to do the place justice, in fact the more spritely of us just managed to get around the site in three hours! The reconstructions are to a very high quality and well set out with a god mix of urban, rural and industrial buildings. We were very impressed. If you have time there... More

You could spend a LOT of time here. The place is huge and sprawling with so many old buildings and different shops showing how they did things in the old days, like wood turning, weaving, rope making, clothes dyeing, and so on. We were even able to sit and enjoy an afternoon coffee and popsicles from a little cafe in... More

A complete village made up from typical regional houses and churches that have been saved from destruction and rebuilt on site. A wonderful centre square with fountain and one building used as a restaurant. Good one too. Many houses contain museums of the period ie a chemist, corner shop etc. One has a printing museum where craftsmen will demonstrate the... More

I have been to similar places before in other countries but this is unique to the area in which it is situated in Germany. There are many interesting things to look at and read (including in English) and it will take you all day and still you will not have seen everything. We also went on a very interesting herb... We were nicely surprised by the park. Very nicely done! You have the impression of being brought to the past! Great for a family outing with children. Worth seeing.

The Hessenpark Open Air Museum is a perfect option for families with young children, although it took a bit of hunting to find the website as it does not come up under Hessenpark rather Freilichtmuseum Hessenpark. With over 100 historic structures situated on 150 acres it represents the perfect place to let kids explore, learn a bit about history, eat... More
