The Monteverde Orchid Garden is a place where you can enjoy beauty that is found in the marvelous world of orchids. Our garden has a large collection of orchids; we have more than 425 different species. You can find species that are endemic to Monteverde, and a collection of miniature orchids, including the smallest one in the world. We offer guided walks both in English and Spanish. We are in a great location in down town Santa Elena.

Fantastic tour - an incredible selection of orchids.
Fantastic tour - easy to find and good value for money. Our guide was very informative, and had lots of information and details to share not just about the orchids in the garden but also those throughout Costa Rica. A really amazing collection with so many orchids in bloom. Took approx an hour and then we were allowed to walk back around the garden afterwards. Definitely worth a visit when in Monteverde.

    Great stop while in town!
We showed up without planning ahead, and we got a wonderful tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, and we learned so much. They have an amazing variety of non commercial orchids growing all around you in the trees, in the ground, and hanging all around. If you are a plant lover-don’t miss it. It’s easy to get to, and there was parking.

    Beautiful calming activity
Beautiful selection of orchids where some only bloom for a couple of days each year therefore you are lucky to see some species! They smell amazing and are interesting even for children to learn the smells and why they have these to attract/fend off unwanted animals! Informative guided tour which is included in the ticket price ❤️

    An Impressive and Stunning Collection
As an amateur orchid grower, this place was on my travel itinerary and it exceeded all my expectations. The garden is located conveniently in the center of the town and the admission tickets were quite affordable - about $16 or so for a 45 minute guided tour. Our guide was Andrés, who was incredibly knowledgeable about all species both in the gardens and many more outside of the country. He patiently answered the numerous questions we had and showed a genuine enthusiasm for the collection. At the time of our visit, the garden has some 130 flowering species. Overall, I cannot recommend this location enough for those even remotely interested in orchids or plants in general - it’s definitely a highlight of the trip.

    Passion and knowledge
Stopped by to hopefully get a couple of nice photos of orchids. I did not expect the indepth knowledge and passion of our guide José Andrés Cruz O. Excellent tour, perfectly conducted. Thank you!

    Orchids are cool
Nice little oasis in town, so many tiny beautiful orchids! Tour is highly recommended as you’ll learn something new even if you’re an orchid expert. Good to go anytime as they bloom year round & different ones bloom every day. You’re also able to come back within a week of your visit to see new orchids blooming if you wish.

    A highlight of Santa Elena!
Just to follow up with all the wonderful reviews, adding this was one of the highlights of the various tours we did in the Santa Elena/Monteverde region. The guide Andres was fantastic, revealing many things about orchids we didn't know, even though we've raising the commercially available ones for more than 20 years. Andres also helped us understand what we've been doing wrong with repotting ours at home, as well as revealing many other insightful aspects of agricultural practices and concerns in Costa Rica today. He is nothing short of a national treasure!

    Fascinating
A really unique experience. Costa Rica is home to hundreds of different kinds of orchids and this garden features many of them. We followed the guided tour. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about orchids and plants in general. He took us around the garden showing us the various orchids on display, telling us about their life cycle, pollinators, and many other things. Fascinating for plant lovers.

So much more than expected! Amazing!
Outstanding! We thought we would see some orchids and learn a little. Our guide not only spoke perfect English, but was INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about orchids, ecology, geography, and plant life in general. We saw and learned so much more than expected!! My young adult daughters even went back through some spots after the guided tour to see more and take more pictures. Highly recommend spending an hour or so here. Also helps that the orchid cafe next door has good food!

    Beautiful and Informative
I love orchids. I knew about this place from a guidebook and wanted to go before I even came to Costa Rica. It lived up to all my expectations. I learned a lot about orchids and took a lot of amazing photos. I cannot believe how tiny some of the orchids are. I did not know that most supermarket orchids are hybrids. I highly recommend going. Make sure to get your tickets in advance!

Fun quick activity in Monteverde.
Our guide (Andres) was very passionate about orchids and gave us great explanations about each flower.
They have a large variety (over 450) orchids but obviously not all in blooming while visiting.
The place is small and doesn’t require any fitness level to do.
They also have a nice cafe on site.

I loved the tour. The guide provided lots of information about orchids. The garden itself isn't that big but it has many interesting plants, not just orchids. There were herbs, plants and flowers that are native to Costa Rica. They also have a restaurant next door that serves really good food. Their Latte Betty is my favorite. Overall, highly recommended!

Really informative. Our guide knew absolutely loads and made it really interesting. We were there as part of a tour group and stayed about 1.5 hours. The garden isn’t huge but has loads of different orchids packed in and great for photos. We didn’t go in it but the on site cafe looked really nice too.

Unexpected and amazing! Our guide was super knowledgeable and engaging. Wasn’t super interested about orchids going in and now I am rattling off non stop orchid facts! Haha. Highly recommend this

We did a guided visit of the garden with Andres who was very friendly and knew a lot about all the different types of orchids we saw. We liked how the visit was done and as we are not orchids specialists, we had many questions and we learnt a lot about orchids. We even bought some orchids to take home. It is a lovely place to go to and we highly recommend to have a guided visit

This was a lovely little guided tour. I learned so much about orchids. Our guide was a delight. You need a reservation for a tour. Took one hour.

It’s only a relatively small area to walk around but crammed full of orchids. The thing that made this visit was the enthusiasm of our guide. I forget his name (because I’m shockingly bad at remembering both names and faces!) but he was so keen and full of knowledge and you just couldn’t help but he swept up in his love of orchids.

Interestingly, he explained that the shop bought orchids have a built in obsolescence so that you eventually need to replace them. This made me feel much happier since they do seem to die on me, although I suspect that’s more due to my care.😆

If you have some spare time, come for a visit as it’s definitely worth it.

This tiny garden is crammed full of native orchids, and a must for anyone interested in plants. It is a real eye-opener if your idea of orchids is the blousy hybrids sold in supermarkets. The native orchids flower at different seasons, so whenever you go you will find plenty of flowers. The guided tour ( a necessity, since many of the orchids are miniatures and you might miss them at first glance) is absolutely fascinating and very informative. The garden was one of the highlights of our visit to Monterverde.

We pre-booked online, but arrived at our hotel in Monteverde a little late. I sent a WhatsApp message to let them know, and our group booking proceeded as planned. Very kind. David was a fabulous guide! Our group had people who love plants and had many questions, and he very kindly answered everything. We learned a lot and had a wonderful time. If you go later in the day (we had a 4pm booking), you will have a better chance of encountering the scented orchids. The tutti fruitti was incredible! Thanks very much, and looking forward to next time. We had a coffee at the cafe afterwards, and it was also delicious. Lots of vegan options, and housemade sourdough bread.

An information packed hour that was well worth the $17 per person entrance fee. David our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all our questions. It’s a small garden absolutely packed with orchids any of which were in bloom.
