About
The Monteverde Orchid Garden is a place where you can enjoy beauty that is found in the marvelous world of orchids. Our garden has a large collection of orchids; we have more than 425 different species. You can find species that are endemic to Monteverde, and a collection of miniature orchids, including the smallest one in the world. We offer guided walks both in English and Spanish. We are in a great location in down town Santa Elena.

See and learn about the great diversity of orchids.

Even if orchids are not your thing you will certainly appreciate them after this lovely tour. Our guide was a very friendly and amazingly knowledgeable person (Andreas sp?). Each of the hundreds of species of orchids had it’s own special beauty. Many grow locally or only in Costa Rica. Some are “rescued “ from fallen trees and illegal activity. A great learning experience in a very lush environment. This is at least a 2 generation family commitment to education about and preservation of orchids.

A real treat for nature and flower lovers

The guide was very knowledgeable and explained many things about orchids. The variety of orchids on display was incredible and they were a treat to see and smell. Overall it was a beautiful experience and I wish we had more time to spend walking around the gardens.

I’m not much into plants but my wife is and I knew I had to take her to see the orchids. I actually learned a great deal and enjoyed my time. The guide was excellent!

Orchid hunters...gather your magnifying glasses and go for it
Jul 2021
What a cute little garden with more than 100 types of orchids. When we walked in, we were a bit hesitant because it's small and we didn't know what we would do there for a 45 min tour. We even tried to say no guide...b/c we didn't think there was enough there for 45 min. But we were wrong! The guide was exactly what we needed, as well as the magnifying glasses. There were tiny little miniature orchids everywhere you look when you started looking for them. They were hiding under leaves, below boxes, in little logs... it was SOO pretty and interesting. We learned a ton from the guide about different orchids, and other flowers, how they protect themselves, how they grow, how they interact with the various insects in the gardens - we learned about pollination and bees. Our 8 year old was very interested and I felt like an orchid hunter. I recommend it for a peaceful and interesting side trip for a person who likes flowers.

LOVED my visit
May 2021
I LOVED my tour of the Orchid Garden. My guide was so knowledgeable and made learning about Orchids one of the highlights of my trip. There are so many beautiful Orchids in the garden, and its location is super easy and accessible from downtown! Anybody who is interested in nature or culture when they travel should definitely visit the Orchid Garden.

Fascinating Lesson about Wild Orchids of the Area
May 2021
One of our favorite activities in Monteverde. We learned so much from our excellent guide and really enjoyed looking at the remarkable range of orchids. Yes, we got magnifying glasses and that was really fun.
After visiting here, I realized how many orchids we had encountered on our forest walks but had no idea.
If you like science, or plants, or how nature works, then this place will likely interest you. If you want to see a bunch of showy orchids, then go to Southeast Asia or your local florist.
Also, the spices (especially the pepper) and coffee on sale in the gift show is excellent.

Overrated

I was shocked at how expensive this attraction was considering how underwhelming the orchid gardens were. They charged $14 each for literally a 10 minute stroll through some subpar orchid gardens. They had one greenhouse with several different larger displays but nothing terribly impressive. We needed to kill some time before lunch so we stopped by. Not worth the money in my opinion. Spend it on a guided tour of Curi Cancha or the cloud forest instead.

Made the forest come alive
Mar 2021
I went to Monteverde expecting to see orchids in the forest, and was disappointed when I didn't. This garden tour made up for it!!! The guide is so knowledgable and interesting. Maybe it's not reasonable to expect to see orchids in the wild, so it's great to have a place where you can see them and understand them up close.

This was a great lesson in orchids! I learned about how old they are, where they grow, and how smart Mother Nature is about coloring and planting them to great advantage do they can attract pollinators. My guide spoke excellent English, and was very pleasant. I enjoyed my tour very much!

Affordable tour of hundreds of beautiful orchid species within Santa Elena
Mar 2021 • Couples
We enjoyed an hour-long tour with an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate guide. Walking through an immense garden of naturally growing orchid species, we learned so much about the way orchids are classified and grow in the wild. The guide even provided some tips for how to care for my orchid at home! Very affordable and within the town of Santa Elena - we were staying at the hostel next door. Highly recommend!
