Nice little temple visit as far as temples go with some good blessings. If you have time worth a visit but similar to all the temples in the area

This is a huge Buddhist stature that can go up to the structure by steps. it is a very old one and hope the temple is older than 250 years. There is a wall clock and it is also old nearly 250 years

A beautiful temple to visit. You can buy flowers for Budha from the lovely ladies at the entrance. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Thank you!

Beautiful Temple with lots of history, I was surprised how much there was to see inside also. It was very special.
Although there are small donations expected for blessings etc it did not feel as overwhelming as other temples we visited and the man at the shoe basket actually refused a tip!
Sadly there is an elephant chained up, it is had to accept this as part of their culture. Our guide didn’t see why were thought it was cruel. They genuinely cannot see why tourists would be horrified.

Temple the is quite striking when you walk towards it, definitely needs some TLC, take small currency as everyone has their hand out which is fine. I actually gave flower seller 500 rupees (£1.50) without taking the flowers and she was thrilled, beautiful people who really appreciate seeing foreigners.

CRUELTY TO CHAINED UP ELEPHANT. Although the temple is beautiful, and has a reasonably priced enterance fee, there is an elephant chained up standing on a concrete platform in its own feces being shouted out and whipped for something as little as trying to cool itself with mud. Absolutely unacceptable. I understand the animals relevance to Budhism and importance to the temple and local people, but if this animal was sacred or respected in anyway it would not be treated as so, nor would they charge for a photo of such cruelty.

They keep a poor bull ELEPHANT CHAINED UP in the hot sun, the man keeping it was whipping the elephants back legs with a chain to make it move and the elephant was very obviously unhappy. Even when the elephant tried to get some water to cool himself off the keeper hit the elephant with a Stick to stop him taking the water, awful to see. I asked the men why they did this but they didn’t seem to speak English. The temple was nice, but I would urge you not to go and support this ill treatment of animals

A nice walk to the temple, not to be missed. Very impressive buddhist temple. I love a huge room with a siiting and a laing Buddha. There is also a very impressive corridor with images about lessons in life. There is also a smaller Hindu room. I loved visiting Wewurukannala Vihara

This temple very famous as it is unique design with others. Climb to the top of the huge Buddha statue. The out side view is very beautiful after going to top. Can see Ancient temple with beautiful carvings

Beautiful. The maintainance could be a bit better, but the place is gorgeous and absolutely worth visiting.

Hi!
Have you released the elephant in freedom and ended with the animal cruelty?

Hi do we have to pay if we going explore the temple?

Hello - Sri Lankans and their spouses do not have to pay. Foreigners pay 200 rupees each. However, a "guide" will take you through the temple and explain the details - not overbearing at all and worth a tip which seems to go into the main donation box. A great place and well worth a few hundred rupees.
