The Fortress of Isabel II was built between the years 1850 and 1875; it is located in one of the most beautiful spots on the island of Minorca and constituiting one of the best examples of late XIXth Century military architecture.

This is a huge historic fort, open to the public, situated at the mouth of the harbour of Mahon. Guided tours are available (with prior booking) but you can walk freely with handsets. Itis well organised.

We really enjoyed exploring the whole place, we must've been there three hours at least, it was interesting and the kids especially loved the underground tunnels. I agree you need sensible shoes. All that's missing is a cafe rather than just the vending machines.

The best visit to an old site that I have ever made and well worth the long walk out to see the 15inch guns. Wildlife and so much to see. As I said to my friend that accompanied me, "if I do not see anything else on this holiday I will not be disappointed". An incredible sight!

To get to La Mola you can walk the 5km fromo Mahon but it would take time. Or hire a car, bicycle or scooter. I hired a scooter for 24 hours at 29Euro, which was a great price. La Mola is excellent to explore and is a great morning or afternoon out. You need to allow 3 hours to see... More

Good value. Staff very friendly and helpful. The fort is one of the largest I have seen. As a defensive position it was awesome for the time. Plenty to see. Well worth a visit.

If you like historical places, and have military interest this is the perfect place to spend a few hours. All my family loved this place, it had spectacular views. Unfortunately my camera died outside but it was lovely. It was quite windy been so high so we wore jackets. It's huge!!!

Maybe the largest historical military structure i've ever visited. Beautiful, impressive, gives a great taste of the historical and military importance of Mahon's harbour.

Historic fort that is well worth visiting. We did not take the audio tour, which would have provided more information, but we enjoyed our visit anyway. There were also beautiful views from the fort.

La Mola has a protection wall all around the fortress with artileriy, pieces, also there is a prison where people was tortured; you can visit the fortress with a guide who gives all historical informations.
