This lovely, small, simple wooden church sits just above the town & offers a scenic view of the fjord below. It is only a 10-15 minute walk from the port. I found that walking uphill to visit the church & returning to port via the steps/trail by the waterfall made for a nice, short scenic hike.

The day I visited Geiranger there was a wedding taking place in the church (tourist information office did not know about it) and there was no chance to see the church inside. However, the view down to the fjord was breathtaking when the cruiser emphasized the depth of the water as the ship seemed to be nearly on the beach line.

This octagonal church was built in 1842 in timber and has a seating for 114 persons. The architect was Hans Klipe and church was decorated by the wood carver Einar Flydal on the basis of designs produced by the artist Per Vigeland. The work was done during 1938-1945. Also two local men took part in painting the wood carvings.

There is also a small cemetery around the church. This white church definitely belongs to its lovely place surrounded by snow peak mountains and the turquoise fjord below the hill.

The Geiranger Church is a lovely white octagonal place it sits above the village it takes 10 - 15 minutes to walk up the hill from the port. Simple inside wood interior and altar the town of Geiranger has about 200 people living there but I could not see them all fitting in the church at one time. The grave yard is well looked after all in all nice to have a look.

Our people have been baptised, confirmed in their faith, married, and buried from this beautiful 19th century church. On Monday December 4th the new german built organ will be inaugurated and our Christmas Eve service will have a finere clang and tone.
Our summer concerts attract visitors of many creeds and faiths to sit here in the church or in the church yard in peaceful reflection.

We took the path up to the church - which was a little bit of an uphill climb. Was pleased to see that the church was open. It is quite small, but nice. When we left, we were happy to see that there was a gate that led to the main road and we did not have to go back down the path.

This church is well worth a visit. Gorgeous building set in lovely, well maintained grounds, with spectacular views across the fjord. My only negative is how disrespectful some people are with regard to the graves in the church grounds. They were trampling all over them without showing any respect at all. It is no wonder places are getting fed up of tourists when they behave like this.

Amazing view over the fjord. It was worth the walk from the dock, even though the inside was closed the day we visited. It was neat to walk the grounds and very peaceful.

First stop of the seeking the northern lights cruise. It nice port to enter but not a very scenic port . The town Center is approx 12 minutes away and there is uphill and how hill involved. There is a big Main Street of shop and restaurants all the town port . Not a lot else and shop prices are expensive compared to home
There is a shopping centre which has the normal store/ supermarket and toilets as there were none in the town. A old early 1900 church is the main building

If you walk back into town down the road you will come across this lovely old church which sits proudly overlooking the town and fjord below. It is worth a visit.

Great place for a wedding. I went here for my sisters wedding and it was a great place to have it. I would recommend this place to everyone that is looking for a great church with an even better view.
