One important note is the glass viewing of Padre Pio is in the lower level of the new church. I have traveled there twice and did not realize this on my first trip. If you arrive at the complex of the older church you will only see the original dark green marble crypt. You have to walk down the path to a completely different modern church to view Padre Pio. Once inside this enormous space ship architecture looking church find the staircase or doorway at lower level. There is an elevator (look for an elevator stack). Once inside there is a slowly winding downward corridor to a chapel where you can view Padre Pio. His face is protected by a latex mask but his hands are natural.

Rather sober, but very beautiful sanctuary, pink marble...
Pretty sunny place.
In the basement, the tomb of Padre Pio.
In the crypt a small chapel.
At the entrance the glass sarcophagus of the Saint is clearly visible.
We had the chance to attend a small mass.
The place remains silent and dedicated to prayer.
Quite a few people, but still reasonable at 9:00 a.m.
The original chapel at the entrance, well preserved.
The Padre's confessional is sheltered by thick glass.
Very beautiful altarpiece.
To finish, a little video on the Christmas crib, at the corner of the basilica, a little marvel of originality.

The old Church preserves the sacredness of the place, compared to the tangible waste of the new Sanctuary, with mosaics - that Byzantium moved! - with gold everywhere, exaggerated spaces already visible with the squares and bus parking lots half deserted, and confirmed inside with the mega theater with an arched tent that smells like an improvised church in a gym for some calamity! Priests celebrating or confessing are very rare, but many are busy receiving offerings. I read that the designer is usually the most expensive in the world, the one who only gets his hands on beautiful specifications: but at least, is he religious?
In short, I bet that Padre Pio from up there envies the places of San Francesco!

If I have to look at the structure, it is beautiful, but if I look at why you go there, it is horrible!! You pass in front of Padre Pio and then you enter the shop, followed by another and so on in both churches!! There is nothing saintly, a disappointment, and 'all profit, after all the church is so! There is more air than Padre Pio in Pietrelcina, where everything remained as it was! San Giovanni Rotondo is a virginity

Spirituality, in this place, is the last of the dimensions that can be felt, I am not discussing the aesthetics of the place which pertains more to a personal sensitivity, although I do not believe that it reflects the teaching and lifestyle of the Saint in the slightest.
It is shocking to see donation boxes everywhere, even in the bathroom; posters indicating safe ways to make bid transfers safely. The same body of the Saint is superimposed on a space where underneath there is an abundance of banknotes from the faithful, a truly jarring image. Faithful who photograph the Saint without any respect. In short, the sensation was that of being in a shopping center the days before Christmas.
The context immediately outside the sanctuary is characterized by souvenir shops, restaurants for tourists and everything that distinguishes a mass tourist place.

There is no attention to the respect and decorum of a place that witnessed the life of a Saint.

Hello to everything,
coming home from vacation, and in the area we stopped here.
I confirm the pomp and the great movement for worship... but it is clear that, in my opinion, here they want appearance and not worship
In all serenity beautiful to see, perhaps more as a museum than for the rest

On holiday in a wonderful seaside resort they could not help but for once visit the sanctuary and the places of Padre Pio. I think it happened to everyone anyway at the entrance of the village blocks you in the middle of the street a guy with a bib and invites you (say forces you) to access a private area used as parking. Obolo 3 € then payment type tip to the guy who accompanies you. I ask him if I can continue closer and if there are public parking lots the Response is nothing just find the hospital. I do not listen to him and I continue I find the municipal parking lots and there aggression of guys who offer you a place to have lunch, one even says that he takes you to his house you leave the car takes you to the sanctuary and then takes you to him who even cook.
In front of the first church another proposal for lunch and even the gate that delimits the entrance of the sanctuary with the new church. Obviously then there is a colossal structure and under the church the crypt with the remains that obviously leaving the path forces you to pass in two souvenir shops.
In all this I do not know where we could find that atmosphere necessary for certain places and respect for the life and works of the Saint?
Not recommended for anyone!

I didn't see the spirituality I expected
So much glitz that Padre Pio would surely not have liked
The most suggestive part are the rooms of the friar
Dogs can not enter and this disappointed me: I have no animals but if pen
We are in San Francesco........
Not to mention the valets who whistle you towards them or block you in the middle of the street to get you into their parking lot
Really sad

Visited yesterday is lodged fi in the village. All very nice and charming. Perhaps even too much the new church very lavish far from the thought of the saint. He would have definitely rejected everything that was done. Another negative note the valets at the entrance, are not a good impact, really poor looting not suitable for a place so dear to many people, including myself. Let's just say they hurt expectations a little bit. Fortunately the old church the room of Padre Pio is all the most intimate part brings back into the dimension of the great saint lived here. Thank you Father for calling and wanting me here from you I hope one day to return

Pilgrim who has your credential, continue on your way, this convent is very sad for us. I asked: Per favor, pellegrino una camera per la note. They told me: I don't understand. I had a friend call me - we don't take pilgrims - Padre Pio turns around in his shroud - as for Jesus he cries over the lives of these men, said to be of God.
