    Hook Head Lighthouse
A tour of the Lighthouse in Hook Head is a must if you’re in the area. The guides are fantastic and share the history and stories associated with the lighthouse. It is such an interesting place. We were lucky with the weather so got fantastic views.

    Excellent experience
We have our mobile home close enough to the lighthouse. But it was good to do what the tourists do for a change . We had American relations over and they wanted to go. We didn’t book but were there good and early . In the area in front of the tower itself , there was a man in a pirate costume entertaining the children. Two of our group got into the tug of war . There’s also a pirate ship shaped playground. The café was doing a good trade and there’s a little shop as well. They had some nice books on Irish flora and fauna . For the tour itself , we had a good clear day. There are 115 steps up the lighthouse so you would need to keep that in mind . We stayed at the back to let the small cousins get a bit of a rest now and again. You learn about the history and geography of the area as well. The Norman William Marshall was the man who was behind the building of the tower. But it’s thought that the monks kept lights there further back .The site of the monks’ chapel is at the base of the lighthouse. Marshall was behind the building of castles like Ferns, Kilkenny and Carlow as well. The rocks and surrounding seas would be treacherous in bad weather . There are blowholes round about as well. You’d want to be careful walking off the paths . We’ve seen whales and dolphins off the shore lots of times . But it was the wrong time of the year for it. The views from the deck towards the top of the tower are incredible.

    A great day out!
I would give this place 6 stars if I could! We had such a fantastic visit here. The lighthouse itself has a fascinating history, but the staff at this place really make the visit - they're so enthusiastic and welcoming and clearly have a real love for the place. Tracy was our tour guide and kept us well entertained with history and stories for nearly an hour. This lady is an absolute mine of information! The coffee shop serves really lovely food and very reasonably priced. Would recommend this attraction to all ages, its well worth a visit!

    Interesting visit
As lighthouse lovers, we definitely had this on our to do list, especially as it’s the oldest working lighthouse in the world. We weren’t disappointed. It’s easy to get to on a good road with plenty of parking. The lighthouse and associated building are in good condition externally and very photogenic. We didn’t go inside the lighthouse as our knees are no longer up to the stairs but there’s plenty of other information about the lighthouse plus a good café, lots of outdoor picnic seating plus toilets available so it’s easy to spend time here, especially if you want to walk around the local headland for the views as well. Recommended.

    Magnificent. Just go - unmissable!
Majestic! The lighthouse itself, the spectacular location and the history would make this a must visit. But on top of that, the team!! John our tour guide was the most engaged, committed and passionate guide ever. He brought everything to the tour and we left feeling so moved, inspired and well informed. All the guys in the team were so fun, great chat and stories and couldn’t have made us more welcome.

    Great family day out
We had such a great time. John our guide was a gifted speaker and historian and had lots of quirky and controversial things to say. Our kids loved it. Will say that for older people all the stair climbing would be difficult. Lovely cafe and shop and loads of fossils to be found on the surrounding rocks. Recommend 1000%

    Fabulous tour and stunning views
Stunning views (see photos) but what made this tour exceptional was our tour guide Paul who took us through the lighthouse while telling us about its 800 years of history. His deep knowledge, ability to create a narrative and his humour made it one of the best tours I have had. Also visit the restaurant afterwards -- the food is delicious and the views unbeatable!

Hook lighthouse was fabulous. Great to see the scenery, views and the rocks, but the tour of the lighthouse was done really well. Jane was a superb local tour guide, knew her stuff and was enthusiastic and interesting. The 114 steps weren't a problem either. Fascinating history. If you're near Wexford or Waterford, or don't mind a drive from Dublin, it's really worth it.

We didn’t do the tour of the lighthouse but the views from the walkways around it were amazing. It was very windy, cold & some rain when we were there so unfortunately couldn’t go for walks around the area. The roads leading to it are not great so if you have any back issues take this into consideration…very uncomfortable journey.

The tour guide was warm, friendly and knowledgable. The history of the lighthouse is amazing and she brought it to life. The views are outstanding. They have around a 280degree panoramic view of the sea. The little cafe was basic but clean and the scones and coffee were great. You won't regret your visit.
