Above this small town stands this lovely castle, with only one of its original towers still standing. Metternich Castle was probably built in the 12th century and was destroyed by the French army in 1689. The views from the top of the hill, on which...More

This is on Rick Steve's list of places to chill out while on the Mosel. You can climb to the castle ruins for a view of the Mosel. Wander the town and look at the architecture. Cruise the Mosel. Visit the church. It is all...More

Burg Mettirnich provides an incredible view of the area, tests whether one has a little claustrophobia, and has a nice little patio to sit and have a beer. Highly recommend a visit

We enjoyed the brief hike - didn't even pay to go into the castle. Can bypass the gate to visit the Jewish cemetary and reach the amazing view point. Do it!

It was a 15 minute walk up from the town center, but the views were amazing, even in the rain. Didn't climb the tower as the spiral staircase was extremely narrow.

The hike up the mountain to the castle is steep, but only about 10 minutes. The ruins are fascinating and the view is absolutely incredible. There is also an old Jewish cemetery up there that is worth walking through.

Took a nice morning walk to the castle ruins in the morning. Nominal fee to get onto the grounds. Not an easy walk if you have limitations, but otherwise not overly strenuous. Not a whole lot of a castle to see. Really the best thing...More
