We visited the 5Fingers viewpoint (and the Dachstein Ice Cave) on August 8, 2023.

We caught Hallstatt bus #543 to the town of Obertraun. The final bus stop was the Krippenstein 3-stage cable car for Dachstein Ice Cave & the 5Fingers viewpoint.
You get off at the first stage for the caves, and the 2nd stage for the 5Fingers. There is a 3rd stage too higher up, though it seemed mostly for hikers and winter skiing. The price of your cable car ticket depends on how high you go.

Resembling a hand with the fingers jutting out over the edge of a cliff, the viewpoint offered great distant views of Lake Hallstatt and Obertraun. Each finger is supposed to have a unique feature: one had a see-through bottom, another an empty picture frame mounted at the end for photos. Another had a metal contraption that no one could figure out. It was about a 20-minute walk here from the cable car station. This is rocky terrain, way above treeline with no shade. The clear sunny day we had was great for views, but the sun is hotter at that altitude and felt a bit oppressive. Thus, we didn’t bother with any of the other attractions there. A friend of ours visited in May and couldn’t get to the viewpoint due to snow.
The view (northeast) to Obertraun and Hallstatt was outstanding. We were there around noon (August 8) and the sun was in the perfect location for photos.

You can also take a boat from Hallstatt to Obertraun. I had read that the bus was the only direct route to the cable-car station and if you took the boat to Obertraun you’d have to figure out how to get there from the dock. The bus actually made several stops in Obertraun town before ending up at the cable car station, so it seems one could arrive by boat and simply walk to the nearest bus stop. The boat would certainly be more scenic than the bus ride.

There are several ways to get to the top of the mountain. Those who choose to take the cable car can expect an undemanding ascent lasting less than half an hour of slow walking to the 5 fingers attraction, which is constructed in a brilliantly chosen place at the top. As I saw, some brave people set out even in slippers and young families with prams. If the weather is kind to you, the views of the surroundings, and not only from the attraction, are unforgettable.

Unforgettable experience! I got a day pass ticket from Salzburg and made transfers from Bad Iscl to Obertraun. I wasn’t dressed for the Ice Cave so I only went to Five Fingers. It is accessible by strollers and wheel chairs. Great for all ages. It is lovely to eat a snack while sitting admiring the marvelous view. Restrooms and a restaurant are available. A small chapel is also there. I suggest that you go to the Five Fingers first before heading to observation deck since it is the furthest. Some packs (hard) of snow was present for children to play with during the first week of July. I was there for a great 3 hours marvelling at the view. Just remember to put your backpack on the floor because it gets crowded in the cable car and to keep your ticket to descend the mountain.

It is so hard to find information on this place …it appears to only happen on the weekend.there is a Facebook page for mariveles 5 fingers …absolutely useless they did not respond and it was like pulling teeth to get information from them . Eventually my friend contacted them .we organised to do the inlet hopping on the 28th May .we arrived on the 27th ,there was a typhon developing over the other side of Luzon (Betty) no boats going out because??? The weather was blue sky at mariveles for both days a bit of a breeze but I had worse at Subic bay ?? So we ended up not doing it .there really is nothing else here as I had already done the Bataan death March .the Facebook page mentioned never got back to us . The hotel we stayed at also could not help . As Macarthur once said I will return …well I will not

Absolutely stunning views on the lake and the surrounding mountain peaks. The 'panoramic' hike from the cable car (mountain) station to the 5 fingers is perfectly doable for most people and offers exciting and varied views as well. In the end of July 2022 the 5 fingers was packed with tourists who took turns to be able to take a picture. Yes, it was that busy. But worth it for sure.

The view from the mountain alone is fantastic. The "5-Fingers" is a nice metal construction and viewing platform about 25 minutes' walk from the mountain railway station. You shouldn't be afraid of heights, as the 5 fingers are free at lofty heights.
One of the 5 jetties is made of glass, on another jetty you can use a baroque picture frame to take a framed souvenir photo with Hallstatt and Lake Hallstatt in the background.

The way there is already gorgeous, and not exhausting. Good for everyone including families with children to go. A picturesque view over the surroundings - Hallstätter See and the surrounding peaks / mountains and valleys of the Salzkammergut.

Take a look and enjoy the view when you are on the "Krippenstein". And pay attention to the weather forecast. When it is cloudy, the view can also be fascinating, but you don't see that much of the wonderful landscape.
€ 47 for the cable car and the ice cave are expensive, but the mountain can't do anything about that, and it is picturesquely beautiful at over 2100m altitude in the Alps.

Very spectacular view into the tale and the lake. At good weather conditions you see beautiful view to the surrounding mountains.

The 5 fingers itself are not so tremendous but a good gag.

We were mislead into thinking that the walk to viewing "fingers" is just walk, but it was quite a trek.
