Unfortunately it was foggy and raining heavily when I visited. The town is really touristy with overpriced and limited food options, so you will have a better experience if the main purpose of your visit is to enjoy the view and the architecture. I booked...More

This review is for the Dachstein-Salzkammergut region; I will post the review for Hallstatt on the Old Town attraction listing. Unlike most mountain/cable car tourist attractions in Austria (such as Untersberg in Salzburg and Nordkette in Innsbruck), the Dachstein website was very informative about the...More

Hallstatt is one of those beautiful and magical little Austrian towns that must be on your wish list to visit. It is by far one of most magical places to be in.

This town is small, quaint and picturesque set between the mountainside and a beautiful lake. We were here between Christmas and New Years. Unfortunately the choice of restaurants is very limited and most with the same menu. The wait staff are understandably tired and even...More

It’s a picture perfect little town in the middle of Austrian alps attached to beautiful lake with crystal clear water. If you are looking for nice holiday spot (excluding day visitors which are aplenty), this is right place.

Beautifully charming town located about an hours drive from Salzburg. Pleasant location to stroll around with plenty of small shops/cafes/restaurants. Halstatt has 3 clearly marked parking areas with parking lot 2 being most convenient to walk from. Nearby ice caves, hikes, funicular ride above town,...More

G'day There are several parking lots in the village, all rather expensive. Just look for the signs and you should have no problem finding a space. Cheers Mike

The Ice Cave is open from 29 April until 29 October 2017. I think it is closed now due to weather condition Yes, you need cable car to get there, no matter what.
