- abraham cBengaluru, India6 contributionsMonastery - crowded and commercialIt is a very crowded place, lots of construction going on at places inside. Did not want to take off my shies to go inside the main building, it didn't look very clean. We went around mid morning.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 March 2023

- Poorwa G K7 contributionsNot that great, but okay as a filler. The monastry is not that great to visit. Most of it is curtailed off for visitors, which is fair, as it is supposed to be a sacred, peaceful place for meditation. The only place that is open is the temple, which is majestic, but otherwise not really great. A nice set of shops at the entrance where you can get great Buddhist stuff.Visited April 2023Written 17 April 2023
- Sandy_JSRJamshedpur, India1,565 contributionsLovely Colorful ArchitectureTibetan Monastery / Golden temple is located at Kushalnagar, around 35 km from Coorg city. It has an expansive temple complex that houses beautiful golden temple. The major attraction of the place is forty feet tall golden Buddha statues. The walls of the temples are decorated with beautiful paintings depicting the characters from Tibetan Buddhist mythology. Overall the temple’s internal and external architecture looked colorful and lovely. Mobile was allowed inside the temple. There is a shoe counter available with a nominal charge at the entry point of the temple. Besides temple, the complex also houses specific premises / accommodations for the monks, garden, souvenir shop, café etc.Visited June 2023Written 16 July 2023

The Tibetan Monastery and Golden Temple is a hidden gem that promises a serene escape from the chaos of daily life. It is an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or meditation. It's a place where you can find solace, gain insights into Tibetan culture, and revel in the breathtaking landscapes of Coorg.
The Golden Temple, a short walk from the monastery, is a sight to behold. The intricate Tibetan architecture adorned with golden accents is truly magnificent, visitors have the unique opportunity to engage with Tibetan culture. This Monastery houses three 40-foot-tall sculptures of Lord Buddha. The Golden Temple's entrance is adorned with massive multicoloured paintings on its exterior walls. The doors are painted crimson and have large gold knockers. A sturdy plaited rope with a tassel hangs nearby. The Monastery's walls are constructed in the Tibetan style. There's no entrance fee to visit the Tibetan Monastery or the Golden Temple. You can freely explore the beauty of the Golden Temple. If you're a photography enthusiast, aim to visit during sunrise or sunset to capture the Golden Temple in its most breathtaking glory.
On weekends, the monastery and temple tend to get crowded. To fully savour the serenity and spirituality, plan your visit during weekdays or arrive early in the morning.
The monastery has many small gift shops with Tibetan artefacts. You can buy traditional Tibetan items like clothes, sculptures, carpets, and jewellery. The temple complex is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Don't miss out on trying the delicious Tibetan momos at the small stalls nearby. There are limited restroom facilities on-site, and food options within the temple complex are limited. It's advisable to carry some snacks and water with you.
