You can get an orientation of the city center on the boat ride, which takes about 45 minutes, so make this your first stop. You can stop along the way or you can take a taxi to the stops afterwards (the stops are also accessible through cars).

Rent a electric boat and go arround Nantong down town, through rivier canals iluminated with different colors. It will take abt 1 full hour for round trip but is worth to see.

This is a closed river in the city of Nantong, locked with weirs from the main busy river.
the banks are beautifully landscaped and have walkways on both sides with lawns and trees and circles around the city that is 3 kl from the main river, at night it is lite up with colored lights on both sides with boats canoes and ferries even a floating restaurant and boating tours day and night till around 12 midnight, very very pretty well worth a night out on the water.

After walking through the ancient Si Lu (old street), we walked to the Hao River. We did this trip at night, so I can't comment of the daytime appearance. However, at night it was a beautiful walk along a lovely riverside full of attractive landscaping and enjoyable architecture. The river was illuminated and the people who we past were friendly. Being the only western person, I got a lot of curious looks, and a few brave people said hello and chuckled when I spoke back.
We exited the riverside walkway at the middle Rinmen Lu bridge where we found a thriving night market with many carnival style games, live music, and small boutiques. There is also a number of scenic photographs to be along there with a building that closely resembles l the Sky Needle.
One could easily spend most of the day walking and exploring the Riverside area and the islands it encompasses, but we did not get time to do that. I definitely want to return some day.

It was just a quite river. I only had a quick run around the area. It's okay to spend some time around it but nothing exceptional about the place

The Haohe river is a nice to have a walk around. Not particularly spectacular, but if you have a few hours spare in Nantong, it's worth a look. The tourist centre was exceptionally clean and had sit down toilets.
