This outlandish bar made of driftwood sits in the Caribbean ocean off the coast of Treasure Beach. Only accessible by boat, Floyd’s Pelican Bar offers a thoroughly memorable experience with stunning views and great food. Swim or snorkel in the shallow waters, savor grilled lobster, and play a round or two of dominoes. Top it off with a breathtaking sunset and a cold Red Stripe Beer. - chicdivaWernersville, Pennsylvania17 contributionsA Spot not to be missed! We visited Floyd's Pelican Bar in September 2023 with friends after a day at YS Falls. We used Jamaica Transport Tours for our tour guides. ( I highly recommend their services) We stayed to watch the sunset which was a real treat. We had the pleasure of meeting Floyd who is so humble and kind and made our group feel so welcome. My husband brought his guitar and Floyd sat with us and listened to him play. You have to take a little boat to get there obviously which was included in our tour. The red stripe tasted amazing sitting on the deck at Floyd's. Don't miss visiting this little gem, this was our second visit to this cute little place and it won't be our last.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 30 September 2023
- Holly FryettLondon, United Kingdom306 contributionsFirst visit to Pelican BarWe visited Pelican bar as part of the YS Falls, Appleton Excursion on my Birthday. It was so cool and never seen anything like it! The lemon Red stripe beers are really nice and are 7 Dollars each. I am not a beer drinker and it was nice so definitely recommend trying that even if you don't like beer normally! The whole place is really unique and had a nice vibe! It was a little bit crowded but still found a place to sit and relax!Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 February 2024
- Marie0771London, United Kingdom537 contributionsBucket list ticked offThis is definitely a bucket list destination. Visited here on Saturday 24/02. I had organised our boat trip via Sheldon's Boat Tour prior to arriving in Jamaica. There are various boats along the coast line and also boat tours from Negril who visits on a regular basis. On the day we visited, we called ahead of time and the boat was there waiting for us. It was 5-10 minutes boat ride to Floyd's. On arrival was greeted warmly by staff. Music was going, drinks flowing and the smell of the freshly prepared meals were to die for. We didn't have cooked meal but bought some drinks which were reasonably priced. On deck there were a photographer (unsure if he is there all the time). You can have your photo taken and if you don't like them- there is no pressure for you to purchase them. There are various craft and other items for sale at reasonable prices. You can have your name carved for a small fee. You can swim, just sit and soak up the sunshine, play a game of dominoes, enjoy the freshly cooked meals or rock to some good Jamaican music. This is one of those unique places you want to say 'I have been there'. Will definitely return when in Jamaica again.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 February 2024
- boyflitt7 contributionsGreat bar, great vibe - a must visit!Great experience, worth the trip down to the coast from Montego Bay. Vibe, food, drink all really enjoyable. Not cheap, but you're paying for the experience which doesn't disappoint. Also use @Chron2pelicanbar1 for the short boat trip over from the beach. Top guy.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2024
- Amy JWest Yorkshire, United Kingdom10 contributionsAnother Great ExperienceGreat place as the bar is based out in the sea, they sell drinks and serve food there too. Floyde himself has been there both times we have visited (the visits are 6 years apart.) Good vibes, good music and good times. Can also go for a swim in the sea while you’re there! Be sure to bring swimwear :) Definitely recommend!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 May 2024
- Patricia P2 contributionsPlace to be: The Pelican BarMy friends and I visited last week. It was the coolest oasis in the middle of summer. Just imagine an irie chill spot in the middle of the ocean! The cozy boat ride, picturesque view, tasty meal, cool beer and soothing reggae music make this place so idyllic. It's the authentic Jamaican vibes for me..10/10. You should drop by. It's amazing!!!! Big up Floyd n fam....One Love ❤️Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 August 2024
- sanders09Lewes, United Kingdom180 contributionsAmazing bar in the sea!Great way to experience something quite special!! Floyd the owner is a great guy, lets you have photos with him. Tells you all about his bar made from just wood in the middle of the sea! No toilet onsite but toilets available on beach, transport is via a smaller boat. You can pay a certain figure to get your name engraved on the wood if you can find an empty space! Drinks can be pricey but for the experience you’re getting it’s well worth it!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 August 2024

We drove 2 hours from Negril to have to pay $20 a person go into a boat and go 10 minutes off land. This should have been included in the tour we paid half decent money for.
The bar itself is a good experience but when I go back to Jamaica I don't think I would go revisit.
Bring lots of money. Beers are $5 and the average cost of food is $25 US without the tip and when I asked for a plate that was $20US when I go to pay they tell me it was $25. I felt ripped off. The food was just ok, fresh yes but small portions. You are better off having lobster at the restaurant on land where you get dropped off.
The sandbar was good but watch out as LOTS of jelly fish and sting rays.
If you want to get your name in the wood structure you can for $5+
Bring a shirt or flag to hang up from your home town or favorite teams.
Good memories but only good for one visit ever,
Top amount of time you would probably want to stay here is 45 minutes and order your food as soon as you get there as it takes forever. So to hangout for 45 minutes after almost a 2 hour drive and then a 2 hour drive back...your decision.

We drove into Parottee bay and hired a boat ($1500 JAD per person) round trip with a tip ($1000 JAD). His boat was nice with enough life vests for everyone on board and there was a wooden step ladder so your could get in without getting wet. The ride in was smooth! From the boat into the bar was another small step up on the wooden stairs leading to the bar. Once there we enjoyed drinks and good vibes.
Tips:
Exchange at this time (Feb 2020) is $100 JAD to $1 USD, so bring $JAM to save almost 20%
Rum punch is $800 JAD and made with Appleton’s. For a stronger drink ask for the white rum instead.
White rum is $200 for a shot, or $1200 for a 375mL bottle. Then you can buy or bring your own juice and for $1200 JAM enjoy drinks all afternoon.
No bathrooms so be prepared to use the ocean as your toilet.
We didn’t bring water shoes, but some areas around the bar can be rocky and the sand is shelly so water shoes would be suggested.
Floyd can be found by the bar working the money, stop by and say hi and be respectful.
If you’re ordering food, the average wait time was 90-120 minutes, so order as soon as your arrive. The portions were generous!

Great site and very picturesque.
We travelled from our hotel at the Grand Palladium Lucea we use TUI to book the excursion and that was with Kerry again a very helpful person and dealt with everything for us. TUI uses Carribean Workd Tours, our drivers name was Keble William's and our Guide Andreia Sundal.
Well what can I say it was a fantastic day the trip was for the Appletons Rum Estate, YS Falls and Pelican Bar, the driver was very good and picked us up on time at 06.30 as specified, he was very knowledgeable about the roads and was very safe. We then completed pickups at Negril and then headed on to our first stop to get some breakfast Patti's and thereafter to Appletons Estate. Our guide Andreia through out was excellent and had some really good history about Jamaica and was such a cheerful person with lots of songs to keep us entertained throughout, A both driver and guide a real asset to this tour company. She had drive and passion for all to enjoy her knowledge and the wealth of songs.
We got to the beach to where the boat location was for pick up.
The boat journey was great but I thought the trip to Pelican Hut was a waste but nice to see.
Would say a shorter time to spend there.

A unique location but that is about the only thing it's got going for it. The drinks were expensive 20 dollars for a red stripe and two rum and gingers. No food available when we were there but I'm not sure I would eat here anyway looking at the hygene of the cooking area. Everyone who seemed to work their was so stoned they could hardly even comunicate, definately not somewhere to take children.

We visited the bar as part of a trip to YS Falls. The bar is made out of driftwood and situated about a mile off shore and can only be reached by boat, which costs "$25 us pp to get there. Once there it is an interesting venue, but the grab fir your cash is persistent. Drinks are expensive $7 us for a sma bottle of Red Stripe, We did not eat there but understand every dish is $25 us. You are encouraged to have your name carved on the deck for $5 pp and of course encouraged to buy over priced tourist tat in the shop. The toilets are awful so try and ho before you set off and drop straight into the sea. Guests are able to swim around the structure but in view of the toilet issue, I decided to stay on deck. The staff were all smoking weed and the smell was obvious so I would not recommend this for children. I imagine it would be nice at sunset yo have a cold beer and admire the view but after 30 mins, I had had enough. It is an unique but very expensive visit, and I would not make a deliberate effort to ho there if I was staying a long way away.

Somewhat disappointing, given all of the positive reviews. Loved the catamaran ride to and from, but Floyds itself was a let down. All food is $25/plate. Beers $5. You can buy a large joint for $10 if you are so inclined. There's a guy taking photos with the goal to get your email and sell them to you, vendors hawking goods and you can meet Floyd, tucked away in a closet. Don't go if you are not steady on your feet, as structure is uneven and you can easily trip. We would have preferred a sunset cruise or snorkeling cruise instead.

Tourists trap where you pay 40$ returns to go on a boat that leads to this nightmare bar where drinks and food are expensive, music is super loud and you are stuck drinking and eating on the side where there is no sun. To top it up you are surrounded and stuck with people you most certainly didn’t want to meet or talk to ever in your life. After 4 rum and punch you can venture and swim to be on the sunny side and talk to some people but you can’t really do that before this much alcohol intake. The best part was the boat ride on our way back. #freedom knowing I would never go back 😬

This was our third trip to Jamaica and we decided to book a tour. After reading the reviews we decided on this one. We were slightly disappointed. The catamaran to the bar is about 1 hour not 30 minutes like we were told which is ok because we enjoyed ourselves. When we approached the bar, a little boat has to transfer us 4-5 people at a time over to the bar. That took some time. Once there you are asked right away to place an order for food and drinks. We did not have the good although people said it was good but took a very long time! There are a couple gentlemen selling items and they really want to sell to you! They were very nice though. Don’t plan on using a bathroom while you are in the bar. It is not pleasant! We did enjoy talking to others but other than that it wasn’t worth the money in our opinion. And there really isn’t a place to swim and snorkel. At least we can say we’ve done it. Just not our thing.

This is my 3rd time here and went with some friends including two locals who hadn't been before. It is certainly something to try once! The boat trip across is a bit of a rip-off at $20 US per person. The food and drinks were ok, not cheap and very small bar to accommodate a large crowd. The day we went was very windy and the sea was rough so difficult to go in. Also there is very little shade. The worse part is the bathroom situation! It's basically an open space with a floor mat!! The Jamaicans we were with couldn't believe it either and they can get away with charging so much, serving food and drinks without a bathroom. I much prefer Half Moon Beach with its little island, working bathroom, large bar, free boat ride and great food/ambiance. We had a great day because of who we were with and the stop along the way at my friend's bar but wouldn't recommend going to this tourist trap!

We went on this excursion as I was hopefully to see Dolphins It was a long day to get there and involved 3.5 hrs driving each was and a 15 minute boat trip out to it.
Drinks and food was very expensive. Bob Marley was playing quietly in the background and you could go swimming in the clear water around it ( not that easy to get back on the platform it involved some ropes and arm strength to accomplish it)
We had out names and the date gouged into the driftwood like thousands of other couples, a small tip was expected but not aggressively so. Everyone was very laid back.
Go to the toilet before you get on the boat you do not want to try and go on the floating bar
Needless to say we didn't see any dolphins ! "seen them every day this week but not today" so if that's the only reason you are going don't.
Few pelicans were seen on the reef This was a very expensive trip and rather underwhelming

hi my wife uses a crutch for support is it easy to get out of the boat onto the pelican bar with a helping hand
Written 17 December 2022
No it’s definitely not easy. The stairs are slippery, jagged, and the whole bar is got angles and bumps. You really have to watch where you’re going. I would highly not recommend it.

hi I was just wondering if this place is currently open due to covid? planning on coming here in september

It’s open now we were there yesterday, you must have a mask to enter, and you have to wash your hands and they do a temperature check before you enter.

Hi can you smoke cigarettes on the pelican bar ,and do the sell coke a cola or vodka ,will they take you to a toilet for the people who dont want to do it in the sea .
Written 7 January 2020
you can smoke anything you want at the Pelican Bar they have mixed drinks so I assume sodas. No restroom you have to use the one on the cameraman before you get there

Hi, Any idea how much it cost to get your name carved into the deck & if we asked for a photo to be taken?
Written 4 January 2020
Very good question, we did exactly that that.
Depends if Floyd is there but he seemed very approachable when we arrived (midday ish), he very much enjoyed red stripe and gave us some great pictures but it was fairly early and quiet.
There are no prominent spaces left for name carving so don’t be upset if it’s out the back or really small and the cost is at your discretion. Hint- pay first and pay more, say 20US.
Good luck

Is it easy to get out of the sea back to the bar if elderly I only have the use of one arm
Written 2 August 2019
I don't think one arm is an issue as long as you can get in and out of a boat fairly easily and have good balance.

I’m traveling to Jamaica from America and I wanted to know if it’s a good idea to rent a car?
If so, what navigation system would be best?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.

For me, a vacation is supposed to be relaxing and all about seeing new things. I've been to Jamaica four times and have never needed a car. Staying at Sandals or Couples they provide transportation to and from the airport. You can also talk to the staff and they will get you a really good deal on private transportation to and from different sights. Let them do the driving and kick back and relax, mon. :)
