Really pleasant beach. Not too windy. Small pebbles on the beach, while not the most comfortable to walk on is at least less of a nuisance than sand. No real winning there. Flat rock under the water, easy to walk out into. Gets a bit slippery, but I just walked carefully or floated on my back to get a little further out. Very clean and calm water. Not many people the day we went, very calm and serene. Main thing is I wish there were better WC facilities.

If you are thinking about going to this beach, i reccomend that you go to the Agia Pelagia Beach instead.
If you come from Heraklion it's only 10 minutes more with the car.
This beach had a lot of seaweed, there was no sand, just little rocks.
Inside the water there are a lot of slippery rocks, i didn't even went more than 2 meters into the water because just in those 2 meters i slipped and almost fell 3 times!
The Agia Pelagia beach may have more people and less space, but at least you will have an amazing time in Agia Pelagia because the water is so clean, also a problem in Lygaria Beach, the water is way darker than in Agia Pelagia, you cannot see you body under water like in Agia...
I got out of Agia Pelagia and went to Lygaria for the last 2 hours of the day, i was very vey dissapointed...

We spent a week in Ligaria and really enjoyed it. The beach is small but it is sheltered from the wind (compared to the larger nearby beaches) so it was good every single day. The water was crystal clear too. Driving from Ligaria to the Heraklion attractions (museums, Knossos, etc) was fast. Our villa was up the Ligaria hills (Blue Hills) so we had a great panoramic view of the beach every night.
We definitely recommend this for family vacations in this area.

Compared to the larger Agia Pelagia beach, Ligaria beach is more of a newer development with fewer facilities but quite a number of umbrellas and sun beds for hire. There’s a convenience store, several tavernas/cafes, a dive shop and a couple of places to stay although most visitors appear to be locals who drive from Heraklion for the day. There are 3 roads to the beach: one to the parking lot, a steep one from the side Agia Marina chapel, and another that passes by the seasonal supermarket above the beach. The beach has cute small lighthouses at either end and generally has a modern feel to it’s seafront.

Beautiful place! We went in May 2021. There wasn't a lot of people, the beginning of the season. Paid sun loungers, a delicious tavern near the beach, there is a place to park your car.

This beach was ok and the water was beautiful but not great for small kids as goes deep very quickly. The sand area is ok but lots of stones not white fine sand

If you get to Lygaria beach in September you get a set of sunbeds and umbrella at 7 euro and the luxury to be one of the few on the beach. The see is quite steep from the shore and you get to see a lot of fish if you plan to snorkell. You can also do a scuba diving and you ll see the lion fish. Water is amazing, there is also a restaurant serving fresh fish which is well known in the region. I recommend it. You need a car. Otherwise you ll find your way back to the top to be a bit hectic. It is steep and very difficult but with a car you get easilly to the beach.

We have just come back. There was one other British family staying. It’s a nice place with beautiful views but the food is awful and there is nothing to do in the evenings. We got a taxi to Agia Pelagia five minutes away and had some lovely meals there.

bbonjour, oui l'accès est facile, les 2 Transat et le parasol sont à 7€/jour mais vous pouvez aussi poser votre serviette sur la plage. Attention aux bans de roches volcaniques qui sont très glissants.
Sinon bah en Crète il y a bien sur du monde partout 😅

U haven't seen anyone fishing, but there are diving schools.
Is the entrance to the sea sandy or rocky? And would it be fine with a 10 month old child there?

So sorry also only just seen this! It's perfect there were some parents with babies , it's not sand more like grey very tiny stones, quite a bit better than sand in a way.

We didn't see anyone fishing at Ligaria beach but there was a dive business that also offered charter fishing at the small beach to the south.

Ongeveer 3 kwartier met de auto. Het ligt ten westen van Iraklion. Dat ligt precies tussen beide plaatsjes in.
