The second stop on our one-day, three country tour (Spain/France/Andorra) was to Thermes d'Ax. Upon arrival, we were given time to explore on our own and for the more adventurous, a hike up Rocher de la Vierge. While the hike takes only about 15 minutes, it is on a steep incline, so be mindful of this. The views from top are great and once you return to the bottom of the trail, you can enjoy the public thermal springs to sooth your feet. The village itself is very quant and the locals were very friendly. A nice, relaxing visit to a French village.

The town is famous for its thermal springs and a visit is well worth doing. Be ready for the smell of sulphur but this just adds to the charm

My wife and I were here on a day tour out of Barcelona ("Three Countries in One Day" tour - read my review on it).
This town is beautiful, fun seeing many of the people in ski equipment, esp. the kids!
The hot thermal springs were pretty good too, about 77 degrees, though it didn't feel that warm, as it was cold in mid-February.
We were on our way to Andorra. coming from Baga, Spain.

Stopped here on the way to Andorra. Ax-les-Thermes has a population of 1400 with a variety of cafes, bars , and restaurants situated in the Pyrenees mountains. There were quite a few skiers here on Friday morning. The town is also known for its sulfurous thermal hot springs. There are two free thermal hot springs-one is near the river-where you are able to sit and dip your feet. The temperature of the thermal springs was warmer than bath water. It felt refreshing on a chilly day. Many people come here to be treated for rheumatoid arthritis in its hospital and nearby spa. Would recommend a walk around the river as it is very beautiful, making for a nice photo backdrop against the mountains.

In March this year (10/3) I visited a tourist village called Ville d'AX les Thermes, which is located in France, on the border with Spain, and where we stopped on the way to Andorra. It is a mountain ski resort with lifts. At the same time it is a mineral water resort. They have a large pavilion there, where the entrance is for a fee and where you can have some procedures in style and under supervision. In several places of the village, there are also small pools with lukewarm and really warm water, where anyone can immerse their feet (recommended for up to 15 minutes) and which are completely free. Together with some tourists from our group, as well as with some residents and guests of the village, I did this, and received a boost of energy and health. As for food, it is there everywhere (cafes, restaurants, shops). Healthy, and not so.

Stopover this place before going into Andorra. It's really nice to walk along the stream which is really beautiful. This place also has some public thermal spa for free usage. There are also plenty of restaurants and a casino.

WE wnt there with our 3 kids and they really loved it. It was their first time in that kind of place, and we had fun. The outside backward flow pool was their favorite place, along with the 14°C pool, which is very cold. WE took the 2 hours plan, and it was just fine.

Firstly very good connectivity to this place from Toulouse by train or road. This place is heaven for skiing, view from gondala to the 2 peaks are fabulous. you can rent out the equipment in the store at town before taking the gondala Restaurant near by the skiing place serve good food and nice drinks. You can even take ski lessons there, if you don't know skiing.

Less than 2 hours from Toulouse airport, this friendly little resort is ideal for a weekend ski jaunt. Stay at the Bonascre end near the Gondala and you can hit the slopes in about 20 minutes tops. The first Gondala takes you up to the resort and then you catch a second Gondala or a chair to get to the runs. There is a good range of skiing terrain, ideal for novices and intermediates and a few more difficult blacks for advanced skiiers. It's almost impossible to get lost as the resort is self contained so great for those less able at piste map reading. Some fast chair lifts and lovely blues through the trees. Might be a little too limited for a week. Also has two ski schools if you are looking or lessons.

In summer beneath the canopies of large trees a timeless charm exudes from Ax Les Thermes. In winter it was peeled back, glimpses of its Belle Epoch heyday were still possible but the new architecture - or lack of style - struggles with the old and now decaying grand buildings in a graceless fashion. That said, such is far less so than nearby Andorra, an aesthetic disaster devoid of soul ...
