The town of Mahabaleshwar charges an entry fee at the rate of ₹50 per head and ₹50 per car. The queue can get really long as tourists pour into the town in the early part of the day. They have a tendency to give a few short tickets, for example 3 tickets when you are 4 in a car. But the payment will be for 4 people. Try avoid paying cash and ask for UPI payment option.
On the way to Arthur's Seat, there is another collection point where the Gram Panchayat is also collecting ₹5 per head. They also have a tendency to give a few tickets short.

Mahabaleshwar: A Serene Getaway
Mahabaleshwar is a destination that embodies natural beauty and tranquility, offering a pristine escape that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of India. With its lush landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and rich natural treasures, it's a haven for nature lovers.
Our journey began early in the morning, arriving in Pune at 6 AM. We had pre-booked a bike through a quick Google search, which made our travel to Mahabaleshwar seamless. The ride took approximately four hours, during which we bypassed the scenic spots, planning to explore them on our return.
We stayed at Hirkani Resort, a modest 1-star hotel that, despite its rating, offers delicious food—though a bit pricey—along with stunning views and the soothing sounds of nearby waterfalls. It’s a great value for money. On our first day, we managed to visit only the Mahabaleshwar Temple.
Day two was dedicated to exploring Mahabaleshwar’s many attractions. We visited Kate's Point, Elephant’s Head Point, Lingamala Waterfalls, Mapro Garden, the local market, Venna Lake, Parsi Point, and several other viewpoints, all conveniently located within a short distance from each other. Keep in mind that these spots close by 6 PM. Mapro Garden is a must-visit, and although we missed it, I highly recommend also visiting Pratapgad Fort.
On the third day, we made our way back to Pune, stopping at Greek Point and a few other stunning valleys and viewpoints, which offered breathtaking views. I’m sharing some photos for your reference.
Travel Tips:
Book your ticket to Pune.
Arrange for a bike or rent a cab in Pune for the journey to Mahabaleshwar on day one. Spend day two sightseeing in Mahabaleshwar, and return to Pune on day three.
Don’t forget to carry raincoats, umbrellas, and pack light.

We went to Mahabaleshwar in the month of August 2021 just after the lockdown were lifted in Mahabaleshwar and all the points were made open. We went for 3N/4D and our stay was in Brightland Resorts on Kates Point Road. During our stay in Mahabaleshwar, the weather was quite chill and foggy. It was drizzling continuously throughout day and night. If you are self driving than be cautious.
From Mumbai, we travelled to Pune by Train and thereafter we have hired a cab from safarnama.in. I recommend this option for those people who have issues in travelling through bus. Whilst returning, made a mistake of travelling through train from Satara to Dadar, instead should have done the same whilst coming to Mahabaleshwar, cause, it consumed much more time whilst returning to Mumbai.
Pros:
1. The weather is amazing during monsoon which makes quite soothing and relaxing.
2. More number of tourist places which includes various points, lakes and historical monuments
Cons:
1. Sightseeing is costly in Mahabaleshwar along with the food
2. The tour operator / local guide will charge you much more for covering most number of points, wherein 3-4 points are there at the same place (Ref. Kates Point)
3. During Monsoon, horse riding is not recommendable, due to foggy weather, where you cannot see anyone who even walks in front of you.
4. I find Mapro Gardens as overrated and costly, can avoid.

So, Mahabaleshwar is definitely a beautiful place to visit. There's no doubt about it's beautiful and scenic view points.
There are multiple issues that one needs to know if you are travelling there for the 1st time.
Be careful of the cab drivers who will force you to listen to them on the tour packages. There's a high possibility that they will abuse and also threaten you if you don't listen to them. The main market is small but again you will have people forcing you to scratch the free gift you are offered and again if you don't entertain them then they will get sarcastic and insult you.
The tour package to Tapola is a big scam because they can only take you to the boating point and after that you have to spend extra money for sightseeing by boat.
Table land tour is another scam where the Horse cart will charge you big money only to finish the tour within 30 minutes.
People have become so money minded that they are doing anything and everything and in the process spoiling the tourist interest.

Mahabaleshwar is certainly one of the finest destinations close to Pune for hanging out. I have personally been there with my friends. To explore the area, we hired local cabs located near the bus stand, which offered fixed rates based on the locations and points of interest we wanted to visit. At the bus stand, we found several cab drivers, and we chose one of them. During our trip, we visited various places, including Mapro Garden, Wax Museum, Wilson Point, Kate's Point, Strawberry Garden, and Elphinstone Point. Among these, all the points offered fantastic natural views.
However, we felt pressured by the cab drivers to visit Mapro Garden, Wax Museum, and Strawberry Garden, as they received commissions from the owners of these places. Unfortunately, we found these three spots to be rather average compared to the other breathtaking locations in Mahabaleshwar.

This place is about 250 km from Mumbai. It can be visited for pleasant climate and to get a break from busy life. There are a few points which can be visited, else cool and calm environment in a good hotel is itself enough.
Boating at Venna lake, horse riding, visit to Mahabaleshwar, panchganga temples are also good experiences. Strawberry season in January to March has obvious advantages.
The amenities here are costlier considering their quality. Some charges collected on random names like tourist charges etc to enter Mahabaleshwar or Panchgani are irritating as they offer no facilities to tourist for it.
Shopping is not a good idea (except for fresh strawberries, goose berries) as most of the items are available at other places easily.

I don't want to come out as arrogant. But it leaves me in wonder, those who have rated it above average - what might be there point of reference.
I am writing this review on my last night at Mahabaleshwar, as I long to return from this over-rated, crowded, and exorbitant trip - and wonder if any other trip has left me so disappointed ever before.

We stayed at Lake View Resort adjoining Tapola Lake. This is a wonderful resort adjoining the lake and the hills. Overall, enjoyed all the view points at Mahableshwar which gives a wonderful view from the top....the picturesque hills which would be any artists dream sketch. We enjoyed a speed boat ride on Tapola Lake to reach the temples and the conjunction of three rivers. Experience was somewhat like a Mini Kashmir.

What is the current cab charges for Pune to Mahabaleshwar drop for sedan car (Including halt at Mapro garden) ? Also what are the taxi charges for sight seeing in Mahabaleshwar? I read somewhere they charge 650rs. For 5-6 points for 2.5 hrs. Don't know whether those are old rates or not.
Can anyone share me reliable, good taxi driver contact number for Pune to Mahabaleshwar & local sight seeing.
