Review of Mahabaleshwar Visit - October 2023:

Family Trip: We visited Mahabaleshwar in October 2023 for a family trip. Our group included around 23 members, including children, and we traveled in four cars.

Arrival and Entry Fees: Upon reaching the entrance of the new town of Mahabaleshwar at approximately 8:00 PM, the Mahabaleshwar Mahanagara Palike staff welcomed us and requested an entry fee.

Entry Fee Miscommunication: When we inquired about the entry fee, they stated that it was INR 25 per person and INR 50 per car. We paid the full amount for all four cars.

Lack of Receipt: After payment, we requested a receipt, but they did not provide one. Instead, they affixed a slip to our car's front glass.

Receipt Discrepancy: Upon inspecting the slip, we realized that it only accounted for INR 175 and did not include the INR 50 per car.

Unsatisfactory Response: We approached the staff again, expressing our concern about the car fee. Unfortunately, they did not provide a satisfactory explanation.

Request for Documentation: We asked for the documents related to fee collection. The staff showed us a circular that only mentioned the fee for individuals (INR 25) and not for cars.

Verification of Staff ID: To verify the authenticity of the staff member collecting the entry fees, we requested to see their ID, which was consistent with the documentation provided.

Reimbursement After Raising Concerns: Finally, we raised our voice and pointed out the discrepancy. As a result, they returned the missing amount.

Sharing the Experience: We are sharing this review to alert others about how tourists may be cheated by similar practices. It appears that these actions are carried out routinely, potentially affecting 5,000 to 10,000 RS daily.

Advice to Future Visitors: We recommend that those visiting Mahabaleshwar do not pay car charges without requesting a proper receipt. This experience highlights the need for vigilance in ensuring you are charged the correct fees and receive the appropriate documentation.

This review highlights an unfortunate experience and offers valuable advice to future travelers visiting Mahabaleshwar.

Mahabaleshwar temple is the temple from which the city derives it's name. It is a very ancient temple of Shivji. We went on a rainy day and as a result the temple was not crowded. We had our darshan very peacefully.

It is located about 6 km from bus stand in old Mahabashwar. It was built by Raja Chanda Rao More in 16th century. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is the only Shiva temple in the world with a Linga in the form of Rudraksha. it is believed that religious importance of this temple is more than twelve Jyotirlingas. It also has many belongings of Lord Shiva and it is believed that Shive comes here every night.
The backside of this temple has got scenic view of Sahyadri mountains. Photography is prohibited inside the temple. The timings are 5 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 9 PM.
Don't miss it...

Mahabaleshwar is famous for its temples and view points. There are three famous temples in Mahabaleshwar namely Mahabaleshwar temple, Panchaganga temple and Krishnabai temple. This Mahabaleshwar temple is must visit temple of Mahabaleshwar hill station and the Hill station derives its title through the God "Mahabali", There is ancient temple dedicated to Lord Mahabali called as Mahabaleshwar temple. This temple was constructed by King Singhan in 1215. After that this temple underwent repairs in 1657 which was done by Divakar Gosavi who was a disciple of Samarth Ramdas Swami.

Architecture of This temple:
The Mahabaleshwar temple is built using Hemadpanti style of architecture. It is surrounded by 5feet wall and divided into two parts, Inner called as Sanctum and outer called as a Central Hall. The inner part has a black stone 6 feet high Lingam as its central figure which is in the shape of Rudraksha. Outer part is open with Mandap where devotees sits and pray to the God

Story Beyond this temple:
According to a mythological story mentioned in the Skanda Purana second chapter, There were two demons brothers namely Atibal and Mahabal. Both of them were creating trouble for common people, Devas and Sages. All of them Prayed to Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar to get read of these demons. Lord Vishnu killed Atibal, however it was no one could kill Mahabal. That is when Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar Prayed Goddess Mahamaya for help. The Goddess lured Mahabal and brought him to the Gods. She asked Gods to request for boon from Mahabal. The Gods asked Mahabla for his death. Mahabal granted the boon but requested lord Vishnu to take the name of his brother Atibaleshwar, Lord Brahma to take the name of Kotishwar and lord Shiva to take the name as Mahabaleshwar and requested three of them to stay at Mahabaleshwar forever. The Gods granted to his wish.

Interesting Facts of this temple:
1. The Mahabaleshwar temple houses Lord Shiva's bed, Damru and Trishul. It is believed that every morning the bedsheet is found crumpled indicating Lord Shiva's presence at night in the temple.
2. The Mahalingam is the only Rudraksha shapped Shiva Lingam in the World
3. The Shiva Lingam appeared on its own and symbolizes a Triguntmak Linga with spiritual significance of Mahabaleshwar, Atibaleshwar and Koteshwar.

Had darshan of Lord Mahabaleshwar (Shiva). The place is quite pious. In every temple, you will experience commercial attitude around. But this is different. A place where you get your soul relaxed

We visit Mahableshwar nearly twice a year and were not aware about the significance of this temple nor did we ever visit. However, we learnt about how shivji had his bed and he would actually come every night to sleep here. It is the only temple with a natural rudraksh formation which people worship. People say things asked here often become true
