This is the second time we have visited the battlefield and it still remains impressive and at the same time a sad memorial for all the men that fell in battle. You can't get a ticket at the gate and have to go to museum which is about a kilometre away - once you have got your ticket - and... More

We were taken through the story of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana by our fabulous Zulu guide called Thulani. He is one of the few Zulu guides in the area and it was so great hearing the story from him and his side. Thulani's knowledge was insanely detailed - a dream for anyone's inner-geek! The way he told the story was... More

Thanks to Foy Vermaak for illustrating the battle through video clips, the spoken word, and utilizing a scale model at Rorkes Drift to make sense of an open piece of land . The evocative white painted stone cairns where soldiers fell are a stark reminder of the tremendous loss of life. Appreciated the cleanliness and upkeep of the site to... More

Very evocative of a major catastrophe during the Zulu Wars caused by the total incompetence of the British General Lord Chelmsford. The area is remote and full of atmosphere. With a local competent guide, ours was Dalton Ngobese, we were able to relive the battle imagining the 20,000 Zulus equipped mainly with spears, virtually annihilating the 1,800 British Troops, killing... We were lucky to have Pat as our guide. He was an ex infantry officer and gave us a very balanced view of events of battle here and Rorke's Drift. The piles of white stones gave an idea of scale of defeat of British Army.

A must see battlefield, largely unchanged by time, can really get a good grasp of the battle around the site.

We were guests at Fugitive's Drift. The accompanied visit narrated by Doug Rattray was brilliant. Highly recommended. A must do before Rorke's Drift to get the chronology.y

Emotive, emotional and vital visit to the scene 0f Great Britain's greatest military defeat. Accompanied by an expert on the subject( a Zulu who's grandfather took part in the battle,) the scene and outcome of the battle is brilliantly narrated. Accommodated at Fugitive's Drift Lodge, we were also able to visit the scene of the epic battle at Rorkes Drift... More

We visited with our three children 9/10/11 and were worried there was going to be too much info and a long day doing the Isandlwana and Rourke's Drift. But Paul was fascinating, I was in awe of his memory and portrayal of the battles. The kids may have struggled with the dates and all the names (so did I) but... More

We picked up our guide and travelled into Islandlwana and stopped for a drink and museum visit in the small village before making our way to the battlefield site. Here we were told of the events that took place in 1879 when around 1300 British and colonial troops were killed by the zulus who vastly outnumbered them. We then moved... More
