Though dramatically perched on a rock cliff It is the atmosphere more than the site itself that impressed me about Ostrog. It was like a pilgrimage for many of the people there. People camping out on the front terrace clearly there for the long haul....More

If you are worshipper or pilgrim you need to get up there barefoot, the walk uphill is quite atmospheric. The monastery itself is a interesting place, you will be in the middle with hundreds of believers. The atmosphere is great and definitely worth visiting.

Fascinating place. We arrived at the same time as a bus load of fervent Russians who kissed every icon they could see. It made the experience quite spiritual. You park half way up the hill and walk the rest. No charge anywhere for anything. Unless...More

Yes, it is an intriguing place for a monastery, but if you want beautiful views, go to Kotor. If you are in the area, check it out. If you want to try the railway and hike up the hill, do so, but don't expect too...More
