It was end of September and rainy. Because of covid situation in a boat was only 4 men. Disappointing that in national park on the river so much garbage. A lot of birds. View is ok, beautiful.
But we spent 150 euros for whole trip : 70 for two of us for 2 hours boat trip, 50 to rent a car to get this place and about 40 to eat in local restaurant. And for this money i would say its small pleasure, will fit for you if there is nothing else to do in Montenegro, like in our situation cause - was rainy, and we decided to go there.

I visited Lake Skadar in the month of March, 2019. I was visiting the place with my kids and husband. At the outset, I was very interested in visiting the lake as I had read a lot about the flora and fauna there. Furthermore, we were so lucky to have a view of the lake from the flight, so as soon as we got down, we made our way Virpazar to take a short ride along the lake. It truly is very beautiful. It's beauty is well maintained and during off peak season (such as March) it was nice to have it pretty much all to ourselves.

Had been to Skadar with my fiancee. A beautifully romantic destination to visit in Montenegro. It is the largest lake in the world. It lies between Montenegro & Albania. The town is quite scenic with fort, a wine museum, Skadar boat excursions, restaurants & flora fauna. If you in Podgorica, I would recommend taking the train towards Bar-Sutomore. You'll have to get down at Virpazar & it's a 7 mins walk to the Town of Skadar. You can check train timings on the Montenegro train site. It's an affordable journey with beautiful views & the train experience in Montenegro.

We had booked a 2 hr private boat ride on Lake Skadar with Vladan. He was very knowledgeable, warm & pleasing host. He explained us about the history, flora, fauna, cuisine etc & plucked us the chestnut from the lake. Also he had arranged beverages wines, homemade Arak, Juices & water. He made sure that we enjoyed the ride & had a nice experience. Surprisingly he made sure we weren't scammed around the town & also awarded us with the tourist traps. So, I would recommend Vladan & he can be reached via Viber @ +381611834582.

At the end it was a memorable day trip to Lake Skadar.😊

End of April and Beginning of May the Sun is a lot more welcoming for Skadar Lake. The ambient temperature was excellent and the sights were very pleasant. I didn't get to see the King of the Lake, The Pelican, because I made this trip in the afternoon. The tour guide said the bird is more likely to be spotted in the morning.

We booked a day tour with Montenegro Cruising. They picked us up in a coach from Rafailovici and took us to the lake. After an introduction at the park information centre, we embarked on the boat which took us around the northern part of the lake. Help with identifying the birds we saw would have been useful We stopped for a reasonable lunch (included in the price) at a small beach before returning to the coach. The lake seems to be covered with a lot of that invasive 'lily' but this was not commented on. A good value trip but come armed with binoculars and a bird identification book.

I took a boat trip on Lake Skadar. The lake was beautiful, carpeted with water lilies and you could see lots of different birds there. The surrounding mountains created a beautiful scenery.
We stopped at one place called Etno Selo Pješačac, where we had lunch and the people from the boat could spend some time on a small beach and swim in the lake.
The boat trip, including a stop for lunch, took approx. 4 hours. It was a very nice, relaxing spent time.

The national park is a feast for the eyes!
I can recommend it to anyone to plan a day trip there. Restaurant possibilities exist, not too many but good and inexpensive!

In the waters it definitely counts from a guide to book (if you know the language a local/private) we paid 50€ for 2 hours and then ate freshly mashed carp at his wife's. (not my taste, much too intense taste of river, but tasting always goes)

Take a small boat tour 2-4 hours and explore the small corners of the park with him. It's an experience you don't have every day.

The view and the ride is something you will always remember:)

You can also tour kayak and join larger tours. There is actually something for everyone here. Just ask several tour guides about the price, is different for everyone (if it is still too expensive, haggling is always possible)

A very nice excursion on Lake Skadar during which we tasted some specialties with of course local alcohol, raki.

This lake is really beautiful, huge with many species of birds and a very diverse flora.

For photo lovers, I think it is appropriate to make this discovery in the morning relatively early to discover all the wildlife and in small numbers.

A very good time

Lake Skadar is an amazing place to visit in Montenegro. There are multiple boat tours that you can book from Virpazar. We did a boat tour of 6 hours and it was amazing. We saw great birds including kingfisher, pelicans, sea gull, different Herron species and more. Also we swam a couple of times. The lake is beautiful with amazing birdlife and great mountains around the lake which gives you great views throughout the boat ride. This was one of my highlights in former Yugoslavia.

Nice lake. To do absolutely. It would be a shame not to see this place.
However, be careful because many sellers come across you as soon as you arrive in Virpazar.
I advise you to take your time and insist that you want to privatise a boat only for yourself.
We were a family of 4 and we ended up on a boat with another family of 7 or 11 passengers for a boat while we then passed boats with maximum 4 passengers.
The lake is beautiful. I also advise you to find a pilot (captain) who speaks your language or English at least if you master, otherwise you miss all the explanations around the history of the lake and the area.
Likewise, a walk is more pleasant with a maximum Check-out at 11am because otherwise the temperatures are really too hot.
