    Walk from Kolymbia
This was a great experience. The views on the top are truly astounding! I walked the trail from Kolymbia. The entrance is a bit “hidden” in the end of a road in between some resorts. It is well marked on google maps for instance. So easy enough to find. The hike upwards to towards the beginning of the stairs of 300 steps was very nice. It was a great experience to glance out over Kolymbia as I got higher and higher in the terrain. At the top was the monastery which was visited by several deeply religious people when I was there, so behaving respectfully would be a good idea.

    What a climb
The views are spectacular once you reach the top!!! We drove part way up, then climbed up a steepish hill to reach the 300 steps that you have to climb to get to the top. Having a fear of heights it took me some time but I did get to the top. It was well worth it. The steps are not very steep and wind around the mountain to the top. What was helpful was that they were numbered so you could see how many more you had to go.

Visiting the monastery from Kolymbia on foot
I stayed at the Leonardo Kolymbia Resort and overlooking it is the Monastery Tsambika, situated at a height of 240m. I had no idea of the existence of the monastery but was keen to see if it was possible to climb up on foot. I eventually found a gate, (see picture), marked for the monastery and in making an initial scouting trip, could not see any clear path and it was fairly steep. I did try again a couple of days later but since it was 6pm, and having established a route up, I decided to make my climb the next day. It was a hot day and I did stumble once but eventually came to a path alongside a restaurant near the top which led to 300 marked steps which were easy after what went before. There are some marvellous views from the small monastery which had a small shop. I walked back down and having left the hotel at 8.30 am, I was back by 12. I found it a very satisfying and challenging walk which is possible if you are reasonably fit and I am in my mid 70’s.

    A wow experience
It was a magical trip me and my boyfriend had. Our travel manager has told us about this monastery, so we decided to visit. We drove our way up the hill on our scooter, and walked the 300 steps to the top. On a hot day, bring water! But I will suggest to do it early morning or last on the day. And the view is just amazing!!

Walk from Casa Cooks Club hotel and back on foot
Excellent walk up which we started from the rear of Cooks Club via the gate in the photo. Walk from the hotel took around 1 hour 40 minutes return trip and from the hotel to the top of the Monastery and back was 3.2km. Walk is fine for persons wearing trainers and take plenty of water! Great views at the top, however, the old man working in the shop based at the car park was extremely rude to customers - shouting excessively loud over people trying to pay for bottled water in cash notes. Thankfully never happened to us but he was clearly heard repeatedly shouting at people! Great walk none the less and amazing views! Remember and give the goats you'll encounter some water ;)

Well worth 300 steps for the beautiful church and views . My 13-year-old fell (running, not the site's fault) and grazed her hand and knee. Looking for First Aid we asked the shopkeeper, who shrugged and said as it was the end of season he had run out of plasters and antiseptic cream (yeah, right). He went back to watching TV. We looked for a toilet to wash the wounds, and walked through his shop again, trying to find it. He started shouting at me, and I quote "you do not listen. I keep saying 'hello, can I help you?' Because you do not listen you will never learn anything." We carried on looking, and he shouted "you come into my restaurant and do not listen. Get out, get out!" He broke off to tell some customers a price...customers we assumed he had been talking to. Bear in mind I had a child with me, and had done nothing wrong, speak a different language, and he was selling Christian icons. He was aggressive and angry and made my child feel unsafe, and didn't have basic first aid facilities in a restaurant. As it happens I'm a minister of a Christian church and I cannot believe what happened in this supposedly holy place. Shocked and disappointed by this hospitality.

Apparently this hike is rated as moderate to difficult. My daughter and I, however, found it really easy. We started from a bus stop (Tsambika Monastery) and then, after a short climb to the car park and then the 300 steps to the Monastery, we got to enjoy the most amazing views over the Tsambika beach and Faliraki on the other side. The trail was almost empty, with not many people around, which we loved 😊 Rhodes island in the spring really is something else - the Nature is just waking up, there were so many beautiful poppies and other flowers/plants on the way to the monastery, also the most beautiful birds of prey up in the sky.
We’d walked down to Tsambika beach after the hike to the Monastery (so empty and absolutely gorgeous) had a swim there, fed some stray cats, then took a bus back to Rhodes town for some much needed, delicious Greek food (all the tavernas around the Monastery and Tsambika beach were closed, so it’s advisable to bring water and snacks if you decide to do that hike in early spring).

The car park is up a v steep road, the steps which begin at the car park, although around 300, are not difficult but on the way down, my word were they slippery and I had sensible shoes on. We saw some people attempting the climb in flip flops (don’t want to even imagine how that turned out).
The church at the top is closed, as are the toilets but there is a small temple. The view is stunning but that’s about it.
There is a cafe for a drink near the car park and pay toilets (50cents).
Watch out for the goats too, lots of them.

Our Lady Tsambika is the Mother of Rhodes.
The monastery celebrates on the 8th of September each year, the Birthday of Theotokos, while a multitude of believers gather from all over the island, as well as from all the Dodecanese to celebrate Megalohari.
Here to mention that there is the old monastery at the top of the hill (Pisli) and the new monastery next to the national road between Rhodes and Archangelos (Kameli) as characteristically called by the residents of Rhodes.
Anyone who goes to Rhodes must definitely visit the monastery that is located below in the EO, to admire with majesty the miraculous image of Theomethros.

Short but steepish climb from Kolymbia (or i have understood from Tsambika). If you stick to the main path, easy to follow and walk.

The final 300 steps from the cafe are in the shades of the forest which makes it very convenient.

If you decide to branch off from the main trails, be sure to have a proper orienteering map. Even without, it is still hard to get totally lost .

Beautiful authentic church very close to the main road to Tsambika Beach.
One can go by car till the bottom of the hill, and climb about 292 stairs, until the top.
Take your time, bring water with you, the stairs are easy to climb if you have proper shoes, you can rest, there are a lot of pine trees to keep you shadow so it is not that difficult.
It is a blessed place for women who want babies, because after they pray at the Virgin Mary, many remain pregnant. This is why one can see a lot of wax babies near the painting of the Virgin inside the church as a sign of the answered prayers.
The view of Tsambika Beach is very nice, but the peace and the beauty of the church is unique!

To reach the monastery you need to follow a path in the woods with 300 steps, of different lengths, all numbered. It takes 15 minutes to cover them on foot. Along the route there are benches and you will meet some goats. The monastery is small, there are 3 small rooms for praying. It is possible to purchase religious items (rosaries, books, sacred images,..). The monastery is known for helping couples have children. The view of the panorama is breathtaking.

Worth a trip but only for the views at the top..

Narrow road to get to car park, there is a cafe at the car park, however on the day we went there was no water or toilet facilities, just drink out the fridge 300 steps to the top and a very small church at the top. The views are spectacular so worth a trip if only for the views.

Do not hesitate to park very high near the restaurant even if the road is steep.
Then we climb 300 steps but honestly it's done quickly (15 min) and it's always in the shade. The monastery itself is small. There are dolls as offerings because the place promotes fertility.
The view at the top is incredible!
