After a beautiful winding drive, you reach the mountaintop castle with the most incredible view of the sea and the Calatrava bridge. Signage was in English as well as Greek lots of great viewpoints and benches for your comfort. Clean restroom at the entrance. It’s a ridiculously cheap €2 admission fee and it’s free to wander around the perimeter If you’re a history buff, you can imagine yourself watching the decisive Battle of Lepanto. Our group included several 80 year olds and it was easy enough for them to manage. Don’t miss this experience.

This is one of the most beautiful and untouched areas in Greece, we call it the "Undiscovered Greek Riviera." If you're traveling on the coastal route between Olympia and Delphi make this picturesque and historic town your overnight stop, and you may want to stay a couple of nights. A beautiful Venetian Port sits below it's Castle on the hill and the views across the blue waters of the Corinthian Bay to the mountains of the Peloponnese are world class. Early in the year the mountains can be snow capped, a stunning sight. Easily as beautiful as the Lakes in the North of Italy. You can spend some worthy hours gazing over the stone walls of the port, drinking a "frappe" at one of the stylish little cafes there, or take a 20 minute walk/gentle hike up the hill, through the passageways and old houses to the Castle Cafe where the views are truly breathtaking. If you don't want to walk, can drive there in about 5 mins from the centre of Nafpaktos. Along the wide beach front of Nafpaktos there are many restaurants. The food in this area is fresh, and natural, and they are very proud of their "home grown" produce. Don't look at the menu, ask what they have cooked that day, and it'll be delicious, Grandmas are still cooking in the kitchens here. We have tried quite a few restaurants and have always been pleased. There are shops, chemists, banks and good hotels in Nafpaktos now. We're lucky to have discovered this beautiful town so early on. It has a touch of magic in it, truly one of Greece's best kept secrets.

It is a fairly steep climb up to the fort entrance by road and we used a taxi from the harbour square. Free admission and extensive ruins from the Venetian era. some rough tracks but mostly well maintained pathways. Excellent views of the Gulf of Corinth and the Rion Antirion Bridge. We came back down to the town through the narrow side streets below the fort

This is our fourth Venetian castle of a mini tour we are doing; not as stunning as Monemvasia and not such a gruelling walk as the Acropolis at Ancient Corinth!
You can drive to the entrance and experience the great views for free. Well worth it.

A beautiful castle, well preserved. It offers great views of Nafpactos Bay, ideal for photoshooting. Overall it was very clean and well organized. Great for a quick or long walk. It requires an admission fee of 2 euro per adult from March to October.

Definitely worth a visit. You can walk up starting from the stairs in the centre of town and on the way pass the ancient Turkish Baths. Pleasant walk and great views. You can also drive to the gate.

The castle is not open on a Monday

Great exercise to walk to the top of Nafpaktos Castle, although not on a hot day like we did. Some shade along the way but not much. Remember to take water although there are 2 cafes half way up, overlooking Nafpaktos. Great view from the castle, well worth the walk, it took us about 40 minutes from the centre of town to the top.

Its shape dominates the hill of the Town following its lines .In the past the Castle walls should be connected to the ones of the Port .
It is a very old Castle ,excavations prove it was ancient ,Byzantine ,Venetian and Ottoman . This city must have been very important the older times as it is located by the entrance of Patraic golf .I walked to its very top .I could see the Byzantine walls built with the small ceramic orange tiles ,i could tell which part he Venetians added ,the Ottomans took it ready .They had water up there ,Baths, Land to produce, church and maybe some houses for the guards . In the dangerous times when the corsares and pirates were attacking ,i assume the all Town should run in there for protection .The Views from the Castle are spectacular . Its location had been Strategic .I really enjoyed my visit up there .It is even walking distance form the center of the Town if you like walking . Walking around the Castle i understood why this Town was so importand .Its location made it a passage . In this Golf one of the most famous battles took place the Battle of Nafpaktos . The United European fleet against the man fleet .The Europeans won .After our visit there ,we stopped by the close by cafe for drinks and enjoyed the beautiful views .

Visited Nafpaktos for the day and went all the way up the hill behind the town to visit the Castle, although we found it was closed. However upon visiting the harbour side the Castle walls that once extended all around the town and harbour, are still standing for a small part around the small harbour and are quite impressive. Nice to sit by the cafes and enjoy a drink under the sun looking at the castle walls around the harbour.
