APROVACA is an orchid nursery & conservation center. We display over 100 beautiful orchids, most of which are native to Panama. Entrance is $2, which include a 20-min guided tour of the center in Spanish or the free use of an English self-guided tour booklet. APROVACA is one of the few places where the National Flower of Panama, the Dove Orchid, is grown in the country. In the greenhouse dedicated exclusively to this endangered flower, you can see over 100 plants growing. In fact, each flower has a sponsor, who donates $20 annually to help us care for and protect this gorgeous orchid species. In our recently expanded garden, you can also see many unique orchid species, such as the vanilla orchid (vanilla is actually an orchid!), lady slipper orchids, the Vanda Miss Joaquim (the gorgeous National Flower of Singapore) and many cute little miniature species. As such, there is no better place to learn about the amazingly rich and unique flora of Panama!Apart from admiring the beautiful orchids, you can also buy the Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis) and over 20 varieties of herbs and medicinal plants. We also run an internet cafe on our premise, where we offer high-speed internet connection through computers and Wi-Fi, good coffee, homemade cakes and fresh juice. The latest addition to our center is Hostel Orchid, the first genuine backpacker accommodation in El Valle. The rate is $12 per night, which include hot shower, free Wi-Fi and a free visit of the orchid center APROVACA. Please visit our renewed website to learn more about us. We are waiting for your visit!

Nice time

It was a nice look at orchids. Small nursery but very petty. It can be seen quickly and is a good break in the day.

Nice place to visit. The best time would be June or later. Early March, not a lot of Orchids in bloom. This is only going to get better as time goes by.

Nice collection of indigenous orchids, however when we went in February basically none of them had flowers, since it's not their blossoming season. Recommended to be visited in June.

This was a very interesting place with a mission. They are trying to save native orchids that are being lost to development. Visually, this place is disappointing. It is really the story (& the enthusiastic staff) that make this place interesting.

We visited Aprovaca as a part of our group tour. We were in a group of 20 and it was too large. Some nice small sized orchids and other plants. Information about the orchids is provided by an employee. We thought that the selection seemed small.

Expecting to just see some orchids the guided tour of the grounds was a pleasant surprise and the very knowledgeable staff pointed out and shared all kinds of information about the flora.

Despite not many of the orchids being in bloom (apparently, October is the month to visit for full blooms), we learned a lot about the orchids (as well as other native plants) and their mission to restore them to the mountains where they have been over picked. The girl who walked us through the nursery was very enthusiastic and excited... More

This is a nice spot for a stroll. The entrance fee helps maintain the elaborate nurseries. They have the famed Panamanian Ghost Orchid. If you're there around October, chances are you'll get to see them in bloom.

the time of the year really didn't allow me to see the orchids in full bloom. However, that all said they had a very extensive collection. I have found that by wandering around some of the local garden centers you can find more options. Went to a garden center on the way up to Cerro Gailtal and found one with... More
