The most amazing lake/reservoir. It's incredible. A well marked, well maintained path around (almost 200 kms of it), with posthouses to stay along the way, and with the most amazing views you can imagine. The cycling around is challenging (rolling hills), so some cycling experience is advisable. I will go back for sure.

Yep, a lake with islands. Not quite sure what else to say. Actually quite disappointed. Some lovely views, but not as easy to cycle as I had hoped, the track in large places was hard to find and was more of a road route than a lake one! It was good to see, but not somewhere I would rush back to. More places would be open during the summer months I imagine, although there was a level of feeling quite uncomfortable when views of the lake are ruined by big fun fair rides - felt a certain level of tacky tourism. Speaking of tourism, headed to the tourist information centre - again nothing there!

This place is definitely worth a visit, especially for those staying in Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou as it is a nice place for a long weekend getaway. While it may be a bit of a drive to get there (over 4 hours from Shanghai), it is worth the drive if you enjoy water activities, island hopping, and picturesque sceneries.

We chose to chill at the hotel where there is a nice pool facing the majestic lake. Our hotel also has swimming access in the lake.

Other than water activities, the other attraction is food, where the numerous dishes prepared using the fresh fish from the lake

Qiandao Lake is located in Chun'an County, Hangzhou City. At its highest level, there are 1078 over 0.25 square kilometers of over-bridge islands. Covers an area of 580 square kilometers. It is known for its great water, the national 5A-class scenic spot, and one of the world's three Thousand Islands Lake.

This feeling reminds me of Mr. Qian Zhongshu's words: "Now, Take a bath, To see a flower and eat a meal is to your liking mainly because you don't care if your bath is clean and your flowers are in good condition or because your heart is not troubled. "

We went there in October holiday and surprisingly it was not busy. We stayed at farmer's house by the lake instead of in the town where was very quiet and relaxing. A canoeing club was nearby and you can do many water activities there. We spent a great afternoon there on the lake.
I def recommend canoeing if you go there!

I find it interesting that not many updated English articles write much about how to get here, and how to get around a lake.

There is a high speed train you can catch to qiandaohu rather than hangzhou. Better still there direct trains from Shanghai hongqiao taking about 2.75 hours although not too frequent (or just change at hangzhou east station). From qiandaohu station it is a nice 30 minute taxi ride into the town.

Catching the ferries here requires you to get in very early. For the central islands (there is also south eastern islands), they depart from 9am for 3 islands although afternoon ferries (about 1pm) also run but just to 2 islands. Fares are from rmb65 (or 185 inc park fees) and as some articles point out, it is worth getting access to the upper deck for extra rmb48 for more comfortable seats and light snacks. Caveat, the ferries are all on Chinese, and there are more exclusive options available.

Coming in late April, the ferries depart as they are full (I waited 30 minutes for an empty ferry to fill up), and we were told to stick to the same ferry all day according to their schedule. A nice and relaxing 6 hours in total. Going to the cable car at the last island is worth it.

Chinese traditional ink painting is culture show painters’ idea and view to the world! I personally think it is a story telling, landscapes displaying and a window to see a small world.
That day made me surprised, the thousand islands lake just like a ink painting, beautiful lake and hills give you a natural experience.....
Thw best way to visit I think can drive around the whole lake because of the way rest stations in different areas can see different views of the lake. Some way station can climb up to the hill to take a panoramic picture, some close to lakeside....by boat just can go one or two islands

I saw this lake on TV and I deside to put this om my bucket list. Now I can give it a tick mark - Done. A very large lake with so many islands. A very good lake to spend with the family for a day.

Signed up a package by CH - 大奇山国家森林公园+千岛湖中心湖区+瑶琳仙境汽车3日2晚跟团游.
As I travelled on the 3rd day of the Golden week, the traffic was a little bad (although it was not as bad as in the first 2days). The bus ride from Shanghai to the 1st attraction (a national park, Hangzhou) took us ~6hours instead of the usual 4. Hotel is ok, included local breakfast. Well, considering I only 1500rmb, and u got my own room... I really can’t complain much. Overall the trip was pretty good.

The group has young kids, age from 7years old to as old as 70+. The tour guide Ms Xu is very knowledgeable about the places of visits. She took efforts in sharing histories of the places (but all in Chinese though). Actually, my main interest was the Thousand island lake (1078 islands total). The ferry cruise consisted of hoping to 3 most popular islands. And includes a buffet lunch on one of the island (but do not set high expectations). This place is just amazingly beautiful, scenery are jus gorgeous, plus the weather on this day was excellent, mid 20s degC, with cool breezes. The water is clear, clean, and everything is about fishes. I was told that there are over a hundred kinds of fishes in there. And the most popular snacks I guessed is the bbq fish on a skewer. Walk around the islands is nice and quite relaxing (~8.8km for the entire day - not bad ya).
